    1. Re: [NYORLEAN] Upcoming visit to Orleans County
    2. Is there a plan to digitize the Orleans County newspapers that are in microfiche and make them accessible via the internet? >From Ed's AOL -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Sat, 1 Mar 2008 10:52 am Subject: Re: [NYORLEAN] Upcoming visit to Orleans County In a message dated 3/1/08 7:55:05 A.M. One place you can look is at the library. We have a local history table where you can search. We also have old maps which may help you to find where your relatives lived. We have Landmarks of Orleans County (1894) with a very thorough index. If some of your relatives were here later like 1880s-1900s, then we have newspapers on microfilm from 1824 to present, where you might find obituaries.Dee I have been in contact with you before, yet have had no luck. I can't give up. I only need 1 or 2 items. In 1960 census of Gaines show Gain Patterson and Tabitha(Mother) with a child Jane A who is Jane Abigail age 13? so..Probably Gaines, Tabitha Howland and Gain R. Patterson married Oct 28, 1847.( I need proof that Jane A. Patterson is Tabitha's daughter.) Jane married Volney Standish between 1861-1866--thinking a birth newspaper article-marriage or death which may indicate mothers name of Jane. Jane died May 28,1872 buried Mt Albion,We live in Oregon and drove there 2 years ago found a lot of info about the families but did not know about your library. I can't give up. I sent over 100.00 to Michigan to find a marriage certificate. For Jane and Volney's son.............Replied not there-several years later someone looking for someone else found it right where I had sent the money, So I am aware unless filed properly it may take an accident to find something. I appreciate you reading my quest. Dorene Standish I think it is worth a stop at the County Clerk's office to check the indexes for deeds. If land was purchased it had to be recorded. If and when you find the deed it will tell you the township, range and lot # -- write these down because they will help us locate the land on a map at the library. From glancing at the census on genweb your relatives were in at least Gaines, Carlton and Kendall etc, so I think our 1879 and 1913 atlases could be of assistance. The library is open every day of the week. Hope to see you here. Dee Dave and Maureen wrote: >I am planning a trip to Orleans County the last week in April.
