I am once again tackling a brick wall in my Pierce/etc. line. Salley (Sarah?) Pierce/Pearse b. 7 Dec 1787 married Peter Hazelton (son of Ballard Hazelton) in June 1817. Most of the censuses for her give her birth state as RI. When she married, she was "of Gaines, NY". She and Peter had 7 children all born in the Genesee, NY area from 1819 to 1834 and then removed to Calhoun Co., MI. Most of the information on the internet (and elsewhere) gives her "possible" parents as James and Phebe Wood Pearse, formerly of Tiverton, RI and having moved to Cayuga Co., NY. They did have a daughter, Salley, born in Dec 1787, but in James' will (not just the abstract) it names Salley Janes as his daughter at the time of his death, 1820. Does anyone know who this Janes was? And has anyone followed this Salley Janes any further? There are two Pierce's on the 1820 Gains, Orleans, NY Census: James Pierce and Thomas Pierce - next to each other on page 142. Is anyone researching these two Pierce's and know who their children are? Thank you in advance for any help with these families you may have. There are a number of Pierce's (J.B.and Homestead) in the 1913 New Century Atlas of Orleans County. The Ogden Farmers' Library has the Atlas indexed and maybe they could be of assistance. http://www.ogdenny.com/TownGovernment/Departments/Library/ Good luck, Cindy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2007 6:37 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [NYORLEAN] Pierce- Gaines NY I am once again tackling a brick wall in my Pierce/etc. line.
