    1. [NYORLEAN] 1840 Census Town of Clarendon
    2. HI, Would any one have access to the 1840 census for the twon of Clarendon? I found two entries for a man I have been researching on the index for the 1840 US Census on ancestry.com: Samuel Millikin Samuel Milikin However, when they filmed the census, they did not film the page which tells who might be in the household. Would someone be able to check the census for these records and let me know who was in each household please? Thanks for your assistance. Mary Flack

    3. Mary, I looked around a little on the census records for 1840 and 1850. In 1850, Samuel's widow, Mary McAllister Milliken was living with the Harley/Fawley Hood family in 1850 age 84. In 1840, even though there are only ticks under the head of household, there are a man and woman living with Fawley Hood in 1840 that fit the age of Samuel and his wife, it is possible that these two marks are Samuel and Mary. In the 1840 census, the Samuel Milliken and Samuel Mlikin are the same people, they are both listed as age 87, but just as being Rev. War Vets, nothing else. No one under his son, Alexander, is in the age group that Samuel and Mary would have been in so he wasn't living with them. Another interesting thing that makes me think Samuel was living with the Hood family in 1840 is that Harley Hood's second wife was Betsey Milliken according to the cemetery records for Hillside Cemetery in Holley. Betsey was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Milliken but passed away in 1848 and by 1850 Harley had remarried again to Pheobe Freelove Dykeman but was living with children from his marriage to Betsey, children from Pheobe's first marriage and Harley's mother-in-law Mary Milliken. So my best guess is that Samuel and Mary Milliken were living with their daughter Betsey Milliken Hood in 1840, then Samuel passed away, then Betsey and Mary continued to live with her son-in-law until her passing. 3. Hi Mary, Just in case you would like to read more about the family in Clarendon, you can find the book "History of Clarendon, 1810-1888" by David Sturges Copeland online. If you go to The Making of America site hosted by Cornell University, you can read this history online at http://cdl.library.cornell.edu/moa/ -- Just click on search and then type in History of Clarendon and there should be three choices, the first one is the book. Samuel and wife Mary are mentioned on pg.350 & 351. There are other Milliken's listed: Alexander, Fanny George, Hattie John, M. S. Mary Mortimer, Robert, Samuel, Sally and William. It mentions the Milliken homestead on pg 199, the Milliken Road etc. If any of these other names look familiar I would gladly tell you on which pages you can find them. Hope this helps a little.
