Matt: Thanks for the response - your guess is correct. My great grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Stangland, a younger sister of Rosetta by 8 years. She married John Barrows, and my grandmother was Ethel May Barrows. The only information I have on Rosetta and Otis is their four children; Herbert, Clarice, Eugene and Frank, and I have no birthdates or other information about them or their descendants. My email address is [email protected], and I would be pleased to correspond with you with other info which either of us may wish to share. Hi Phil, I couldn't help but notice that you have been researching the Stangland and Cary families. I ditto what so many have also expressed. You have my sympathy for this loss as well as my gratitude to all of the volunteers who have combined to make the Orleans County GenWeb site one of the very best on the Internet. It helped my break down a brickwall on my Irish family, so I am eternally thankful. Sharon, I extend as well my deepest sympathy and thoughts for a loss that contributed so much for we the geneaology/researchers. Orleans County as others have said is the best web site in the United States. I, too, found so much on my Ancestors and their families (i.e. BURTON, etc.) on this county web site. It has been an outstanding web site and I have found no other county with this wealth of information all due to you and Marge. Thank you both for all your hard work in the field (walking cemeteries), giving so much to all of us, including State censuses transcribed. Take care. Kat
Hi Sharon, Thanks so much for you and Marge Schultz. The Orleans County Web site has helped me tremendously. I know the transcribing of the graveyards was just wonderful and helped everyone so much. You and Marge are in my thoughts and prayers. Sharon, Others have said it better, but I'll just add that I belong to approximately 20 county genealogical web-sites, and the Orleans County NY web pages are the best I have encountered. The state census enumerations, the cemetery inscriptions and vital records on this site have allowed me to trace the Orleans descendants of one branch of our family down to the mid-20th century. I am very grateful for all its content. Pam
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the work you have done and made available to all of us who are tracing our families. It is particularly important to me, since I live on the Pacific Coast, and have only been to Upper State New York a half-dozen times. My ancestors farmed in the area, and thanks to you diligence I have been able to find much information about the Henry, Stangland, Cary, Barrows, and others which I was seeking. A sincere thank you, Phil Henry
Sharon, I was so sorry to hear about Marge's passing. When I found your genweb page I was so excited. It has provided me with so much info on my Cosgrove and Kearney families!! You and Marge have put together a fantastic site. I know we will all miss her input. Dear Sharon, It was very sad news that you sent about Marge Schultz. Marge was so dedicated and so thorough in her family search. I am forever grateful to her. She helped me find many of my Hood ancestors and even a cousin, Maxine Hood Luck. While searching for relatives in other states, none of their genealogy knowledge compared to Marge's. She and you were way ahead of the other states in your genealogy information. I always thought your way of finding and compiling information should be the model for every state. May God bless Marge, and you for the wonderful job you both have done and you continue to do, along with your co-workers on Orleans Genweb. Elizabeth Hood Anderson

Thank you. There must have been a police / sheriff's report done for his death (other than natural causes); who can tell me where to look and ask for a copy of that? Samuel is the father of Mariah, who married Byington Root; Olivia "Olive" who married Urotus Erastus Bardwell; Chapin Calvin (or Calvin Chapin) who married Jane E. Sample; Frances; Manly Brace; Samuel Dwight who married Mary and Harriet. When Samuel died in 1847 his wife (per administration paperwork) was Chloe. Chloe is living with the children in 1850 in Barre, Orleans Co., New York. In 1860, she is living with Chapin and his family in Green Lake Co., Wisconsin. Because her date and place of birth are right, and because on Chapin's name, I have always assumed she was Chloe Chapin, daughter of Jehial & Ursula Bement, who was born 12 Feb 1792. I have just found a listing of Barre Center Cemetery, which shows Samuel burried next to his wife Sophia!! She died in 1833, 14 years before Samuel. It looks like all the children are Sophia's, and Chloe is a 2nd wife. Does ANYONE know anything about this family?? Thanks, Kathy
Hi Ed, We were "experiencing technical difficulties" with the scanner this morning when I arrived so I am sending the hard copy out by mail. Glad we could be of help.
