My husband's paternal grandfather, John B. Gaze b c1889 is missing. We saw recently when accessing the newspapers on the NY GenWeb Pages for Orleans County that The Medina Tribune's 10 May 1917 edition stated his death at the age of 28 from TB on May 8, 1917. But, his grave is NOT listed with the rest of his family in West Ridgeway Cemetery on the Cemetery List of Orleans County, NY website. Both of his parents and all of his ten siblings are listed there, but no John B. Does anyone know who we would contact to find a complete listing of all of the names interred there? Could there possibly be a pauper's section of the cemetery that isn't listed on the website? The Medina Tribune article stated that his body was brought to Medina after his death at the Buffalo Hospital, but failed to mention that he was survived by a wife and son. One would assume that his burial would probably have been around Medina. 1. [NYORLEAN] Town histories for Orleans County going online.
    2. Ray Brown
    3. Today I added the first 6 town histories to my web site for Orleans County, NY. The towns of Barre, Carlton, Claredon, Gaines, Kendall and Murray were added. These are shorter than what I have online for the other Western New York Counties but still have a lot of good information about the early settlers. Like all my history files for New York they may be found at this link: http://history.rays-place.com/ny/index.htm Other recient additions for New York State to my web site. Herkimer County The towns of Frankfort, Litchfield, Norway, Russia and Schuyler. Lewis County The town of Watson. Montgomery County The towns of Amsterdam, Charleston, Glen and St. Johnsville. Oneida County The towns of Deerfield, Florence, Marci, Marshall, Trenton and Verona. And the completion of 651 biographies for Jefferson County. Cheers Ray Brown http://www.rays-place.com

    3. Thank you for your response. If you have John E. Gaze's birth as 05 Nov, 1855 that is probably correct. But, his son, John B. Gaze died on 08 May, 1917. Therefore, I'm guessing that John B. Gaze is buried there and not John E. I haven't yet checked all of the available censuses to determine if John E. Gaze was still in Orleans County when he died on 26 Aug 1930 or if he was in Los Angeles, CA. Maybe his young widow couldn't afford a burial site, so the family offered his father's plot?? This is developing into quite the mystery.... ----- Original Message ----- From: Roger Millis To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2007 8:59 AM Subject: Re: [NYORLEAN] Medina Tombstone - GAZE I took care of the West Ridgeway cememtery for 20 years and am still on the Board. 3. There are listed in West Ridgeway Cemetery as follows: GAZE, JOHN E. 11/5/1855 8/26/1930 L.A., CA FATHER: JOHN A., MOTHER: CLARISSA, HUS OF LILLIE MAY ODERKIRK GAZE, LILLIE MAY (ODERKIRK) 8/17/1858 1/29/1920 FATHER: PROSPER ODERKIRK, MOTHER: MARY, WIFE OF JOHN E. Not sure why John's death date is different but if you are sure about your date, Theda, let me know and I will correct the listing. 3. Thanks Dina. Although you didn't enclose the link to the West Ridgeway Cemetery, I've already gone there. Our John B. is NOT listed there. To better explain: John E. Gaze (b1855) is John B.'s father. John A. Gaze (b 1818) is John B.'s paternal grandfather or John A.'s father. John Gaze (b 1848) was John A.'s first "John" born before John E. who was born 1855. His first "John" only lived to the age of about two and one half years. ----- Original Message ----- From: The Scheels To: [email protected] ; [email protected] Sent: Monday, March 12, 2007 3:21 PM Subject: Re: [NYORLEAN] Medina Tombstone - GAZE Here's a link to a Rootsweb site that lists all the Gazes in West Ridgeway Cemetery. 1. [NYORLEAN] Samuel Milliken
    2. Thanks to the people who answered my query about Samuel Milliken in the 1840 census. What I was trying to find was the father of my Samuel Milliken that is in Niagara County in 1850. This Samuel in 1850 was living in the town of Cambria and listed as 33 years of age, born in New Hampshire and I figured that he might be related to the Millikens of Orleans County. I have checked all the cemetery records in Orleans County and can not come up with a death date for Samuel Milliken, husband of Mary McAllister. From the Orleans County records, I have discovered that Samuel and wife Mary had a son Alexander and a daughter Betsey. My Samuel might be a son of Alexander but I am not sure how to go about proving it. Could someone find Alexander Milliken in the 1840 Orleans County census and let me know what it says under the different lists please. Thanks again for the help. Mary Flack
