    3. Hi Cindy, This is Dee Robinson, Reference Librarian at Swan Library in Albion and Historian for the Town of Gaines, Orleans County. Since the Peter Smith School would be in the Town of Murray, I would suggest that you contact Marcia DeFilipps the Historian for the Town of Murray. The network of government historians in New York State very often have records not found elsewhere. Marcia's address is 19 N. Main St., Holley, NY 14470. Here phone is 585-638-8188, feel free to tell her I directed you to her. Dee Cindy Rockow wrote: >Would anyone have any information about THE PETER SMITH SCHOOL on Peter >Smith Road (where else)? 3. Thank you so much Bob, I have tried to get that info for a long time. I will contact Ontario Co. and see whether they have anything on the death of Nathan Sherman, 5 June 1820 and his family. He was my 4th great grandfather. 1. Re: [NYORLEAN] advice needed - GLIDDEN and DAVIS names
    2. Delia Robinson
    3. Hi Laura, This is Dee Robinson, Reference Librarian at Swan Library in Albion, NY. I see in your email that you are looking for Methodist Chruch records, perhaps this is leading you in the wrong direction. In "Landmarks of Orleans County, NY" by Judge Isaac Signor 1894, P588 he states: "The Second Free Will Baptist Church.- At an early day a Free Will Baptist Church was formed at East Clarendon. April 7, 1846, a society of this denomination was organized in the southwestern part of the town, and in 1850 the earlier organization was absorbed by it. Until 1859 the place of worship was the school house in district No. 10, but in that year it was changed to No. 4. This society has never built a house of worship. The first deacons were Jehiel Glidden, and John Hawley. The first clerk and treasurer was Chester Hawley. The pastors have boon: Revs. Archibald Bennett, A. Gilman, William Peck, Charles Cook, Shubel S. Stevens, Walter Holt, Alfred Olmstead, and D. L. M. Rollin." Because there are no definite dates on the pastors I may be leading you astray myself. But I thought it was worth a look. This book is online at Heritage Quest. If you have access go to BOOKS and simply search for Glidden, Jehiel, you will bring up the Landmarks of Orleans County book. Hope this is helpful. 2. Hi, Laura. There are a great many GLIDDENs in the book, HISTORY OF CLARENDON from 1810-1888 by Davis Sturges Copeland, 1889. I don't immediately see your requested names, though. >From the Index: Glidden, Alcy Ann, Almira, Amos, Andrew, Asa, Aurin, Belle, Bertha, Betsy, Blanche, Glidden Cemetery, Charles, Clark, D., Dand, Darius, David, Mrs. Davis, Davis, Glidden District, Edgar, E.H., Electa, Eliza, Emeline, Emma, Fred, Ira, Irene, J., Jacob, Jane, Jefferson, Jeremiah, J.F., Joseph, Julia, J.W., Lucy, Lydia, Mary Ann, Osmer, Pamelia, Perry, Glidden Road, Sabrina, Sarah, Glidden School House, Simeon, Mrs. Dimeon, Simeon, Jr., Smith, Sophronia, T., T.H., Thomas, Mrs., Thomas, Warren, W.F>, William, William, Mrs. William. I haven't checked in years, but at one time CORNELL University in NYS had this book online. Let me know if you see a name listed that you would want a look up done on. Happy Hunting! 1. [NYORLEAN] advice needed - GLIDDEN and DAVIS names
    2. Laura Gould
    3. Hello, I need advice on how to find the first name of a Davis woman who was born about 1809 and married Jehiel Glidden about 1826 in Clarendon, Orleans County, New York. She died, or they divorced in 1828. Her child's name was Oliver Davis Glidden born 1828. Do church records go back that far? If so, what would be the Methodist church for Clarendon? Is there a resource for looking up Clarendon cemetery records? Any advice on how to research Clarendon, New York from Michigan would be great. I can give more details on my search if anyone loves a good mystery. The above is just the tip of the iceberg. :-) Thanks, Laura

    3. Hi, Can anyone tell me whether there is a possible obit for Nathan Sherman who is buried in Shelby Cemetery. They say he died in Wayne Co but Wayne Co. wasn't formed until 1823. He may have lived in Stafford, Orleans Co or Sodus Bay but he died 5 June 1820. His wife Mercy (Madison) Sherman took the 7 younger children (including my gggrandma to Queensbury, NY to live with his mother who was also a widow. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Jean Maris [email protected]

    3. Hi Dina. Thank you so much for your reply and great information. [This family did eventually find itself in Michigan and four brothers fought in the Civil War there.] I often wondered about the canal because this family moved from NY to PA and along that route by Lake Erie. Finding this type of information is one where I probably need to read lots of books about life at that time to really come to a firm conclusion. Thanks again for the time you put in to your response. Very much appreciated!! Donna Michigan
