If you are interested in good maps, or plan on doing any land research anywhere in New York State, then you will likely want to read my review of one of the very best New York State Atlases available. If you had ancestors that settled early in central, or one of the western counties of New York, then you might find some information on them in a collection of manuscript church record books at Cornell University. Annette, I don't know who the Heary's in St. Patick's Cemetary are but I don't know to many either.I know they must be related but don't know exactly how. I've got to learn how to scan and send e-mails of which I haven't had time to do yet. I'm still trying to catch up on the stuff that got put on the back burner when I was sick. Now it's Girl Scouts, my grandaughter is in and her mother wants no part of it. But Rebecca hasn't anybody to play with here like her mother did. All the kids in the neighborhood have grown up and moved away. Then theirs that Xmas shopping crunch I'm usually started by July but not this year, thank God for a Christmas Club. I've got 2 stepsons and their Spouses, 6 grandchildren, my Mother-in-law and my daughter and my husband and teachers and bus driver for Rebecca. Also assorted relatives. I got the Teachers and Bus Driver done. 3 of the grandsons done, some stuff for Rebecca a couple things for my husband and my mother-in-law and that's about it. Then I got to start on Chistmas Cards. Sorry I haven't had time to work on Genealogy but lately it's been Girl Scout Cookies and before that it was Reader's Digest Candy, Magazines and assorted items for a fundraiser for the school and next week we pick that up to deliver. It's like it never ends. But aleast I don't have time to get bored. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Very interesting story. I have no connection, but came across the Hungerford name while wandering through a cemetery (I believe it was the Morton cemetery near Kendall) researching the Henrys, Barrows, Stanglands, etc. The Hungerford name struck me because I had run across someone by that name in Mammoth, California when there on a skiing trip several years ago. I'll check with a friend who lives in that area and see if there is any connection. Phil Henry ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

To Ray Brown, Have you come across any information on Orrin S. Canfield and family in the history of Shelby? On the 1880 census he was a blacksmith in Shelby. Thank you, Maureen Sausen
There are a number of Pierce's (J.B.and Homestead) in the 1913 New Century Atlas of Orleans County. The Ogden Farmers' Library has the Atlas indexed and maybe they could be of assistance. http://www.ogdenny.com/TownGovernment/Departments/Library/ Good luck, Cindy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2007 6:37 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [NYORLEAN] Pierce- Gaines NY I am once again tackling a brick wall in my Pierce/etc. line. Salley (Sarah?) Pierce/Pearse b. 7 Dec 1787 married Peter Hazelton (son of Ballard Hazelton) in June 1817. Most of the censuses for her give her birth state as RI. When she married, she was "of Gaines, NY". She and Peter had 7 children all born in the Genesee, NY area from 1819 to 1834 and then removed to Calhoun Co., MI. Most of the information on the internet (and elsewhere) gives her "possible" parents as James and Phebe Wood Pearse, formerly of Tiverton, RI and having moved to Cayuga Co., NY. They did have a daughter, Salley, born in Dec 1787, but in James' will (not just the abstract) it names Salley Janes as his daughter at the time of his death, 1820. Does anyone know who this Janes was? And has anyone followed this Salley Janes any further? There are two Pierce's on the 1820 Gains, Orleans, NY Census: James Pierce and Thomas Pierce - next to each other on page 142. Is anyone researching these two Pierce's and know who their children are? Thank you in advance for any help with these families you may have. One more for Marc Archer, Had a chance to look for the obituary on Mary. I found it in the Orleans Republican May 13, 1914, it states: "Mrs Mary Warner died Wednesday last at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lee Brown of Eagle Harbor, aged 86 years. She was born at Nassau, N. Y., but had resided at Kuckville nearly all of her life." Marc Archer wrote: >List, > I'm searching for an obit for Mary (Filkins) Warner. On the site for Orleans Co. This is for Marc Archer, This is Dee Robinson, Reference Librarian at Swan Library Albion, NY and Historian for the Town of Gaines. My Deputy Historian is related to the Greeleys and has an old book on the genealogy of the Greeley family. I think I found the answer to the question at least as of 1905. I am looking for information on Preston Miller who moved to Orleans County about 1907. He appears in the 1910 and 1920 Censuses for Orleans County and his children seem to stay in the area, so he probably died and is buried there though I don't know the date or place of interment. Previous to 1907 he was born and raised in Moulton Twp., Haldimand Co. Ontario Canada. He married Ada Spencer on Aug. 11, 1881 in Dunnville and the 1901 Census finds him still in Moulton Twp., a farmer with four children. Then about 1907, at age 52, seemingly firmly established in Canada, he up and moves to Orleans Co. NY. Why ? His grandfather (and my g-g-g-grandfather down another line) moved with his family from somewhere in NY to Haldimand Co. ON somewhere in the period 1834-7. I have been utterly unable to find out anything about John's early life and ancestry in America. I am wondering if Preston got an inheritance of land that brought him back to NY, which would imply his roots (and mine) go back through Orleans Co. in the 1830's. Obviously I would REALLY like to know if this were the case. Any information, either on the Miller clan or even how to research the matter of land inheritance in Orleans Co. would be appreciated. Mike Miller, Mississauga ON

Robert: I have bits and pieces, that may or may not be related... I share the same Clarissa Pollard as Leonard Gaze does. I also have a bunch of Hills that married into my Platten family of Yates and Ridgeway. In particular, Wallace Everett Hill, b. about 1896 in Knowlesville, husband of Ethyl Lula Marjorie Platten (b. 1892, Lyndonville). They were married in Oswego (why???).
