Hi Elizabeth, Just a quick note. My Stephenson family came from County Longford around1831 and settled in the Bethel area of Sullivan Co NY. When my 2 sisters and I went to Co Longford, Ireland we discovered that 95 % of the peopl there are Catholic. My Stephenson family were Methodist. Charles Clinton , b.1690 Ireland of English and Scotish decent, left Co Lonford with relatives and neighbors May 1729 and settled in Little Britian ( Town of New Windsor, Orange Co NY. In the History of Orange Co NY, by Ruttenber and Clark., there is an account of the crossing over; many family names are metioned, a very sad account which makes me cry every time I read it. The Thompson brothers of Longford settled in Thompson Ridge ( about 1776, Town of Mongomery ) now the Town of Crawford, Orange Co NY. They or their desc helped to build the church there know as the Hopewell Church ( a daughter church formed by the older congregergation of the Goodwill Church). Hope this was helpful.
