The official enumeration day of the 1850 census was 1 June 1850. All questions asked were supposed to refer to that date. I have found more than one person, listed last, that died 1850 but were on census - but usually died between 1 June & the actual census-taking date. Could be instructions were slightly misunderstood, maybe as "up to".
