Seeking the identities and pedigrees of the following three families of Orange/Montgomery Counties in the Montgomery/Walden area: Jacobus Miller, b. 1783-1784 (he appears in the household of daughter Hannah and son-in-law Henry Burns in Esopus, Ulster County, age 76, with no wife.) The Burns family bible list Jacobus Miller's death as 10 April 1860, which obviously is a mistake, because he is alive as of census date 18 July of that year. I'm seeking verification of the death of Jacobus Miller: possibilities 10 Aug 1860, 10 Apr 1861, etc. He was dead before the 1870 census, as daughter Hannah Miller Burns, widow, is living in Walden township with her children on the 1870 census, and her father is no longer with her. I have found entries for Jacobus Miller in the township of Montgomery in 1790, 1800, 1810 and 2 in 1820. There is also an 1820 entry for a third Jacobus Miller in Wallkill in 1820. In 1790, there appears to have been a number of heads of family Miller all living in Montgomery. Can anyone help me with the history of this family? According to the Burns family bible entries, Henry Burns was b. 25 Jan 1823; d.12 May 1861. He married 25 Dec 1848 Hannah Miller, who was b. 22 June 1828. No places are noted with these dates. Their children were Winfield Scott Burns b. 24 Apr 1850; d. 8 Mar. 1919; William burns b. 1 Aug 1852, d. 24 Apr 1855; Minerva Burns b. 26 June 1853, Alonzo Burns b. 6 Sep 1854, d. 3 Nov 1859; Henry Burns b. 20 July 1857, Warren Burns b. 20 Feb 1860. Henry Burns d. 12 May 1861, his widow Hannah Miller Burns d.7 Apr 1880. I do not find traces of Henry Burns family in the Montgomery area before his widow and children moved there, presumably to be near her relatives after the deaths of her husband and father. It may be that the Burns were an Ulster County family. Hannahs children grew up and remained in the Wallkill Valley area. Does anyone have knowledge of this Burns family? Winfield Scott Burns Sr, son of Henry and Hannah (MIller) Burns, b. 24 Apr 1850, married 4 May 1875, according to the Burns family bible, one Mary Henry. NY State Death Index lists her death as 3 June 1928 in Walden; her gravestone dates her birth at 1848. Although I have seen some Henry family references in Wallkill Vally, and in the Orange County Reform Dutch Church records, I have no means of connecting them to my Mary Henry. Any information about this family would be new to me. The children of Winfiled Scott and Mary (Henry) Burns, presumably all born at Walden, were Hattie, b. 20 Oct 1873, m. Hennry C. Burrows and removed to Brooklyn, NY; William, b. 11 Spe 1875, m. Jeannette Hasbouck; Frreddie b. 7 Mar 1878, m. Laura ?; Lillian May b. 11 May 1882, m. 17 Sep 1902 Frank McMahon; Evalenne b. 17 June 1886, d. 16 Aug 1888; Winfield Scott Burns Jr. b. 25 Jan 1889, d. 1956, m. 23 Aug 1908 Annie F. McFeeters. Winfield & Mary (Henry) Burns are buried at Wallkill Valley Ceme! tery, as are his brother William & wife Helen (Clearwater) Burns. I would greatly appreciate any assistance with the Burns, Milller and Henry families noted above. Thank you. Diane Stefane Chesapeake VA
