Hi: I knew a Frank SAYRE that lived in Monsey, Rockland Co., New York. He lived across the street from our house on Route 306. He was a hermit and lived in a old stone house on about 7 acres of property. He was a grounds keeper and handyman to a Jewish settlement up the road from our house. He was a collector of anything and everything. My buddy and I would talk to him all the time. He died around 1950, I don't think they ever found any relatives of his. We found him on his bed one morning dead, his false teeth laying on his chest. We called the police and they put a pad lock on the door and all the things he had collected over the years disappeared. He was going to give me his stamp collection and my buddy was going to get his coin collection. He had stamps in cigar boxes and they were staked in 3 rows almost to the celing of his house. He had a sword given to his grandfather engraved from the Civil War. He had a matched set of dualing pistols in the original case. He had every copy of National Geographic, Sears catalog, New York Times and more. If the Jewish people had a problem with something working, they gave it to him. Many times I saw him wheeling a wheelbarrow down the road with a stove, wash machine or refrigerator in it. My mother use to take him to the bank to deposit his money. He was a very simple man but a very interesting man we used to talk for hours.
