HI Peggy: My Roses are back in Connecticut around 1656. The Rose people that I am a descendant of were part of my Stephens line. Obediah Stevens and Rebecca Rose ca 1662 had a son Ephraim Stevens, in New England. The Rumsey's intermarried with the Smiths around Smith's Clove didn't they? I have Smith's too. They are all in the same line, but as near as I can tell I am not related to the ones in Smith's Clove. My Samuel Smith married Jane Stephens, and Jane Stephen's ancestors are the Roses.
