Maybe NY was loaded with Francis Drakes by 1800. The Nancy Parsons 1793-1870 AR widow of Francis Drake who next married Casimir Hipolite abt 1833 (and Hipolites would have been up at Seneca Co NY) had Hipolite kids in Steuben & Allegany County 1830s. Casimir had ealier married Mariah Weller. I don't know Nancy's surname of my own research, it came from other's Hipolite research, and the same is true of identity of her 1st husb Drake. I fell into this at the Weller connection. Yes this is the Hipolite marshmallow goo in a jar family. > Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2007 15:37:43 -0500 > From: "sscotty" <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [NYORANGE] Jacob SWARTHOUT/SWARTWOUT ---snip--- > > I am also looking for a female Swarthout that was married to a Francis Drake > 1st or a male Swarthout that married the widow of Francis Drake. I did some research on this Francis Drake awhile back. The Hipolite family is living next to the Simon Drake family early 1800s. This Drake family is from the New Jersey Drake line. I feel that Francis was probably from this line. There were also several other Drake families from New Jersey living in the general vicinity of Catlin and Catherine, Tioga Co. (Later Tompkins Co.) I have a lot of data on the various Francis Drakes living in NY from 1700-1850. We have also done DNA testing on several lines and descendents that has helped seperate the groups. However, I still am unable to find anything on my Francis P. Drake prior to about 1839 when he and his family show up in Green Creek Township, Sandusky Co., Ohio. Francis A. Drake of Big Flats, Chemung Co. NY and Bradford Co., PA is from the "Dutch" Drake line of Orange Co., NY. Francis Drake of Lansing, Tompkins Co., NY is the son of Francis Drake of Orange Co., NY and neither is from the Dutch Drake line! This group appears to be from the Drake line of Southhold, Suffolk Co., NY which encluded John, Richard and possible a Francis b. ca 1710. Francis Drake 1st and Francis Drake 2nd of Ovid and Dansville, and Francis P. Drake of Tompkins Co., NY appear from DNA testing to be from the same line of Drakes. Possibly from the Westchester, NY and Fairfield, CT line of Drakes who descend from Samuel Drake and Ann Barlow. Lots of these Drake lived in Cayuga Co., NY. Also in the area was a Francis Drake of New Jersey and his sons Thomas and Henry. This group ended up in the Bethany, NY area and in far western Pennsylvania. This Francis died in 1828 leaving a young daughter, possibly from a second marriage. We also have Francis Drake who married Demmis Kelsey of Berkshire, MA who ended up in Eagle, Wyoming Co., NY. His children ended up in Erie Co., PA. Another Francis Drake who lived in Orange Co. NY married Hannah DeKay. This Drake group has not positively been identified through DNA. They may be related to the Dutch Drakes but are off a few numbers on a couple markers. This group moved to Michigan where Francis died. We also have Francis Drake of CT who lived in Cicero, Onandago Co., NY. This Drake group was from the Connecticut Drake line and is a son of John Easton Drake. In Saratoga Co., NY we have Francis Drake, son of Dr. Col. Samuel Drake. This Francis was a lawyer and died in 1814. And last, Francis B. Drake of MA who moved from western New York to Ohio and then on into Iowa and Illinois. Most, if not all of these Francis Drakes were born before 1803. The majority being born 1750-1780. Probably more than you wanted to know about Francis Drake in New York! Susan
Hi Susan. Along the way in your Tompkins Co., NY research, have you perhaps picked up on any KELL(E)Y family connections?? I have been searching for the family of Benjamin KELL(E)Y b c 1772 NY. He is supposed to have been from Tompkins, Cayuga, Seneca area moving to Wayne Co., PA by 1822.
