I'm new to this list and thought maybe someone here might have additional information on a recent find. I believe my 4th gg parents were Joseph Conklin and Jennett Monell of NYC. Jennette Monell might have been the daughter of Lt. James Monell and Sarah Janet Graham who had their origins around Wallkill and Montgomery. As far as I can determine, they were the only Monell family who moved from Orange Co. ca. 1785-1790 to NYC , so if there were any Monell descendants in NYC in the erly 1800s, James and Sarah were the likely source. I found a Joseph and Jennett Conklin at the Brick Presbyterian Church in NYC between 1811 and 1814. Then I found them earlier with Jennett's maiden name of Monell in 1804 at First Presbyterian in NYC, from which Brick had split off in 1809. Joseph and Jennett had a daughter, Adeline Conklin, baptized the same day at First Presbyterian as her probable sister, Elizabeth Monell Morris (wife of Robert Morris) had their own daughter, Sarah Ann Morris, baptized (7 Dec 1804). Does anyone have any records showing the Conklins and Monells marrying in either Orange Co., or in NYC? I think it's Joseph's side from which the Halsey name comes into play, but am not positive. Conklins with the name Halsey are predominately from NJ and Orange Co. In Baker's book Monell Genealogy, he speculated on a spinster named Jennett Monell being a daughter of Lt. James Monell (due to Elizabeth Monell Morris' 1848 petition for a war pension based on her father's service. There was a Jennett Monell who signed as a witness to the petition, but "my" Jennett would have already been a widow under the name Jennett Conklin. The spinster Jennett (b. abt 1774, of Newburgh) was probably a daughter of Lt. Robert Monell (wife was Isabella Graham), brother to "my" Lt. James Monell. Baker had secondarily speculated about the spinster Jennett-Lt. Robert tie. Baker just guessed wrong by picking Lt. James as the spinster's father instead. So: James Monell, b. abt 1743, Wallkill, m.
