    1. Re: [NYORANGE] Conklin-Monell

    3. Hi Ann, Wow! What a nice quick answer. I live in Salt Lake County, so I have access to the FHL. There I discovered, just by chance!, the book "Personal Records of the Brick Presbyterian Church in NYC 1809-1908" (FHL Book US/CAN 974.71 K28k). I had been going on the possibility that Jennett's last name was Halsey because of the naming patterns with the two known Joseph Halseys in the family (Joseph Halsey Conklin and Joseph Halsey Ryan, being namesakes I'm sure for the Revolutionary War General Joseph Halsey. And did you know that famed Admiral Halsey from the Pacific Theater in World War II is also a decendant from the General?). The Brick book did not give Jennett's maiden name, but showed birthdates and baptism dates for three of their children. But following advice to focus on the Presbyterian records in NYC, I learned about Brick's "spin-off" from First Presbyterian. So working backwards from 1809 when the split-off took place in First Presbyterian's records (FHL microfilms 1017607, 08, & 09) I found the two December 7, 1804 baptisms. I almost passed it off because I was looking for a Joseph Conklin and Jennett Halsey, and this said Jennett Monell, a last name I have never heard before. But something stopped me dead in my tracks and said go back, this is it. A Joseph Conklin-Jennett anything was too uncommon to just brush aside. I knew of the rarity of the combination because I had compiled a spreadsheet for all NYC Conklins from the city directories spanning from 1784 to 1845. I found Baker's book Monell Genealogy on-line, I think through Ancestry, and there was able to learn what I have learned about the Monell family. Though I don't have concrete proof yet that Joseph and Jennett Monell Conklin are the parents of my 3ggm Caroline M. Conklin Ryan, and that Jennett is the daughter of Lt. James Monell of Orange Co., I believe that my assumptions about the formation of these family lines are the best ones that have been postulated despite the presence of final confirming information. I appreciate your interest! Hope to hear again from you soon. 3. Hi Chris, Appreciate your detailed info on Conklin/Halsey lines! Do you happen to relate to or have info re: a Daniel Conklin(b. 1765 East Hampton, Long Island NY) who mar an Isabel Lusk 1791 in Suffolk Co. NY? Believe his parents were Daniel and Abigail (Parsons) Conklin. On another line, have a possible Elizabeth Conklin (or Cornell) who mar an Isaac Travis bef 1787 Pleasant Valley, Dutchess Co.NY. Trying to figure out who Eliz parent's were. Will definitely look up the book you cite, and appreciate the reference!
