I have p. 148 of the First Census of the U.S., Orange County. Evidently this was 1790. I have a Catherine Decker m. Simon Jacob. A Jeremiah Decker lived near this couple in the 1820 census of Whitewater Twp., Franklin Co., IN. Trying to determine if he is her father. She was born 21 Aug. 1783. In this enumeration, Jeremiah is listed under Warwick Town. Above him are John Blain, Thomas Vanderhoof, Thomas Oakley and Wm. Bush. Below him are William Green, Daniel Burr, George Nannay and James Keeler. There are other Deckers scattered round about. Jeremiah is the only free white male over 16. There are four males under 16 and two females of any age. I take this to be a wife and a daughter (perhaps Catherine). Can anyone provide any information on this family, where they might have been located and who the other children may be. I am not certain this is Catherine but it might be. An Abijah Decker (b. 1791-94) m. Catherine's sister-in-law, Martintje Jacobus as well; he was a veteran of the War of 1812. There are conflicting accounts as to whether he enlisted in Orange Co., or Ontario Co. It also seems as if Biblical names were used in this Decker family and wondering if there are any likely records for the first four males as Abijah may have been in this family but born after this census. Jeremiah likely moved to the Lakes in the migration around 1800-1804. Thank you for any assistance. Sharon Pearce, sharpearce@yahoo.com The World has chosen Peace. Time heals confusion!
