I have 3 McConnell cousins in the Clan Donald DNA Project, and all have 37 or 67 marker results in hand or on the way. The problem is that these cousins don't match anyone else in the Clan Donald DNA Project, and I haven't found high level matches outside the project either. I suspect that my male McConnell line is not really a McConnell line, but I am not really sure. My family lived around Lake Hopatcong, sometimes in Morris County and other times in Sussex County. There were several other McConnell families that lived in the region who might have been related in some way, even if it was not strictly through the male line. I'd really like to see members of some of these other families tested, and this seems to be a very good time for people to order testing because of the deal available on 37 marker tests, which also includes a low resolution mt DNA test. As far as I know, none of these other lines have been tested. There were McConnells living around Lake Hopatcong before the Revolution according to one pension application that I read for a John McConnell, and it seems likely that my McConnells were related to them in some way. I think that the Matthew McConnell family of Orange County was probably related to these early Lake Hopatcong families. There were other McConnell families in Sussex County and Warren County that may also have been related. If you have any connection with any of these regional McConnell families, please consider encouraging testing by McConnell male family members. Of course I would be delighted to hear from anyone researching any of these families and would be happy to answer questions about testing and about my McConnell research.
