All, Apologies. I see K. Powell responded to me earlier as to John Bayley. I meant to say the John Bayley of the Elizabethtown Associates led the allotment sales about 1699, so might have been an ancestor of the Bayleys of Westchester. One of the owners of this land in Essex Co. was a Daniel Pearce of MA. Perhaps the Bayleys came down from MA to Westchester. Begin: ...Dunno where my Baileys came from before Westchester offhand but they migrated to Licking Co, OH after the Revolution, along with Caleb Hill and offspring. Caleb's dau Hannah had married Isaac Bailey, son of John; John Bailey came from Westchester to Wallkill which was in Ulster Co. End Sharon Pearce, sharpearce@yahoo.com --- On Mon, 8/31/09, S. I noticed that a 1775 assessment list for the Town of Waywayanda (Mnisink area) included a John Bayley, along with Shepards, a Bradner, Thompson, Oldfield, Carpenters and others considered pioneers in this area. Would anyone know if this John Bayley was related to the John Bayley, a founding member of the Elizabethtown (NJ) Associates who set up the system for alloting 100 acres parcels in Essex (Union) Co., NJ to encourage settlement there about that time. I am trying to ascertain if this is the same Bayley family, and what route it took to enter Orange Co.; i.e. via the south, Essex Co., or did some of the Bayleys still live in Long Island and made the trek across the Hudson River and down. I know Bayleys were early settlers in Long Island along with the Willises of Essex Co., and I think the Shepards were there as well, but may have also been in CT before arriving in Orange Co., with the Corwins. Thank you for any clarification. Sharon Pearce, sharpearce@yahoo.com
