    3. For those who are interested, go to "Google." A "preview" copy is available through Google books. http://tinyurl.com/lolb86 On Aug 31, 2009, at 1:11 AM, David Edsall wrote: > Hi all, > Would someone who has a copy provide a brief review of the scope of > the > material in the book? > How much detail is there about the various families, that sort of > thing. > Much appreciated, > David Edsall > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jeff & Kathy Stevenson" <jkastevenson@msn.com> > To: <nyorange@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 3:56 PM > Subject: Re: [NYORANGE] Looking for Orange Co.,NY history book > > > It is available through Heritage Books, Inc for $39.00 plus $7.00 > shipping > and can be ordered online. > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYORANGE-request@rootsweb.com > with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and > the body of the message

    3. That preview includes most of the index. Unfortunately it skips a page or three, but most of us can look there to see if it includes people we're researching. 3. Hi, Listees ~ I just looked at the Google Book previews of 'Pioneer Families of Orange County, New York' by Bill Reamy. As a point of clarity, for the people I searched in the book, there seems to be a heavy reliance on the LDS Ancestral File. This is disappointing. As you know, it is a collection of data that can be, in many cases, HIGHLY suspect. Even the FamilySearch.org site says: "About Ancestral File     Ancestral File is a collection of genealogical information taken from Pedigree Charts and Family Group Records submitted to the Family History Department since 1978.  The information has not been verified against any official records.  Since the information in Ancestral File is contributed, it is the responsibility of those who use the file to verify its accuracy." My mother was a member of the Church when she was alive. Her pedigree info, submitted in all good faith, was about 75% correct (though thin - before home computers) and had about 25% totally wrong "relatives". She submitted her charts on the names I just searched. Bummer!
