In the index in the book "Pioneer Families of Orange Co., NY" is there a Joseph Lemond/Lemmond or Lamont/Lemont mentioned? I'm trying to find the father of my JOHN ALEXANDER LEMONT/LAMONT who was born around 1820 in Newburgh, Orange Co., NY. Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you. Diane charane@aol.com

Diane,   Have you come across a Catherine Leman (var. sp.) who married Pickle (or James) Gifford.  He was probably born in the 1760s and maybe she was born after 1770.  They end up in OH, maybe by way of PA, but there are hints he came from NJ.  Trying to help trace them; their children link to my families.
