Both State Vital Statistics & the County have come up with nothing.  I'm researching the John M. MacAllister family (who lived on MacAllister Street), & David Cremer (Creamer?) family a block away on Main Street, (local grocer) most of whom are buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Jervis.  Their burial records were all destroyed by a fire in the Baptist church.  One of the family, Archie, was a firefighter in 1878, & I've just written the firehouse, & one was a Mason, Leonard, who I have an obit for..other than that, I'm stumped.  Thank you kindly for your thoughts! ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2010 13:45:36 -0400 From: "TEE" <irishgirl1@frontiernet.net> Subject: Re: [NYORANGE] records for orange county To: <jan@janclizerpainting.com>, <nyorange@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <0A0D248FE7F24619A966803A30FAF5E7@Radical> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1";     reply-type=original Jan, don't know if this is any use to you but found these names in a book Margaret Mc Allister m.Wm.Cumming...May 12/1757 NY McAllister  James m Eleonora Callahan...Oct 8/1779 NY ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Clizer" <jan@janclizerpainting.com> To: <NYORANGE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 27, 2010 1:33 PM Subject: [NYORANGE] records for orange county > Does anyone have any 'outside the box' ideas for finding ANY kind of > birth, > or ANY (free/affordable) records for the Port Jervis area from 1847 to > 1900? > Both State Vital Statistics & the County have come up with nothing.  I'm > researching the John M. They were protestant, one of older sons became Methodist minister. I was at the Allen County Library for a week last week and found absolutely nothing in the books there. >> >> >> Thank you kindly for your thoughts!     Gaycha >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> NYORANGE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >> quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYORANGE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2010 15:12:00 -0400 From: "EM" <masel@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [NYORANGE] records for orange county To: <jan@janclizerpainting.com>, <nyorange@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <6BA1A374E0D748FC9906387D10C0FDEE@D6JP5V71> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1";     reply-type=original If you don't have this, there is a David Creamer buried in Laurel Grove Cem., burial # 3221 in Lot 54, Section E.  There is a date of 25 Dec 1888 but this could be either his death date or burial date.  There should be a short obituary in one of the Port Jervis newspapers which are on film at the PJ Library.....a great source of info. The spelling for the street is McAllister and most of the family is listed under this spelling in the Laurel Grove Cem. Index and on the census.  That may be one reason why nothing was found.  In the same plot with David Creamer is John McAllister, burial # 5140, died or was buried 11 Feb. 1901. There are two other John McAllisters in other plots....one died in 1873, the other in 1903.   Leonard MacAllister who died around 4 May 1941 is buried in Lot 54, Section E.  Notice the spelling of his name vs, the others.  There are more McAllisters in the index.  My index only goes to 1988. On the 1900 census is a John McAllister and family living at 169 West Main St. in the Town of Deerpark, Village of Port Jervis.  His month of birth is listed as January and year is 1847.  The Minisink Valley Historical Society may have more information on the Laurel Grove burials.  Possibly one of the local funeral homes might be able to help also if they have time.  Don Parker (now deceased) of Gray's was very helpful to me years ago.     Elaine ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Clizer" <jan@janclizerpainting.com> To: <NYORANGE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 27, 2010 1:33 PM Subject: [NYORANGE] records for orange county > Does anyone have any 'outside the box' ideas for finding ANY kind of > birth, > or ANY (free/affordable) records for the Port Jervis area from 1847 to > 1900? > Both State Vital Statistics & the County have come up with nothing.  I'm > researching the John M. 3. The Minisink Valley Historical Society has burial information for Laurel Grove Cemetery. Perhaps birthdates are included in the records??? http://www.minisink.org/ As for the Find-a-Grave site, the last I checked there were relatively few listings online for this cemetery. But if you want a photo of a particular gravesite, you can post a request. Best of luck.

    3. 1 There are a batch of books available online at the HeritageQuest site that cover Gardner/Gardiner genealogy and there are also some commemorative books that cover early Newburgh, NY history. Ask your local librarian if your library subscribes to HeritageQuest. 2 Although I found no Hezekiah mentioned, this following book has historic information on early Gardner/Gardiners of Newburgh and nearby Gardnertown. You can download the book as a searchable PDF: History of Orange County, New York (1881) Ruttenber, Edward Manning, 1825-1907; Clark, L. H. (Lewis H.) http://www.archive.org/details/cu31924028832693 3 Again, no Hezekiah, but a bunch of other Gardner/Gardiners are documented at the Old Town Cemetery [Newburgh] site: http://www.oldtowncemetery.org/ 4 I haven't yet consulted the woman, but I'm told that the Newburgh Local Historian is a crackerjack. Sorry, but I can't remember her name. Her office is located within the Newburgh Free Library - perhaps she can help you? http://www.newburghlibrary.org/localhistory/ResourcesoftheLocalHistoryGenealogyResearchRoom.htm Good luck.

    3. Did the info on the news items & obit on Snyder ( the poor guy that hitched a ride on an Erie train only to fall to his death) ever come through? I don't remember seeing the post. And did the message and attachments reach the woman who was searching Elias? Let me know if they didn't make it & I'll send then again.
