    3. Liz, According to Sampubco.com there is a will on file in Chemung County for a Joseph Smith of Elmira in the 1840's time period that would fit your guy. Have you checked with the Surrogate's court there? Sampubco would only have the will from micriofilm. I would get the whole estate file from Elmira.
