    3. Hi, It seems to me so many folk are concerned about the - don't get me wrong, I think it is wonderful too - Family search site that I am very afraid that many folk might be forgetting that the IGI is just an index after all. At best a guide - certainly not proof - my 7th GG is there 7 times - one for each generation - and six of them have inaccurate information. For those who do not know, the information in the IGI is put there in 2 ways. 1. from extractions of parish registers - the C0 and M0 Batch numbers basically. These have as high a degree of reliability as any copied list. and 2. From Patron submission - originally this was a members only thing but is no longer restricted that way. These are the batch numbers starting with 81 etc and a string of numbers. the 81 is the year of submission. REMEMBER - the patron is a person like you and me, sometimes a genealogist, sometimes a member of the LDS church, sometimes someone more interested in finishing his or her genealogy or in lining up with an appropriate title than being accurate. Please use this valuable tool wisely, and remember that it is just that. Even with all the wonders of the internet we still need to see the original parish register or vital record for any semblance of proof.
