I am just joining the list as I found out that my ggg grandfather, James Smith was born in Orange County. He was born 1810. I don't know who his parents were. He married a Rachel Freese from Tompkins County and his first two children were born there in Dryden. I don't know when he would have left Orange County. Like looking for a needle in a haystack right? Does anyone have any information on the Smiths that lived in Orange County around 1810 and may have moved to the Cayuga/Tompkins area?
