Some time ago I received a letter from a daughter who was searching for GEORGE W. HOWELL her Mom who is very ill. I have sent her everything I have. But I have not found the right one. I thought that perhaps Someone in Orange Co would look into their records and make her and her mother's Christmas a very special one. Her mother would like closure on this line. Any devoted Genealogist would understand this. Here is what she has sent to me on the family: There is a George W. Howell in the 1820 and 1830 census index residing in Goshen Village, Orange Co., NY. Somebody sent me an e-mail and said Benjamin Howell, an early settler at Ridgebury, had 3 sons, George W, who resided in Goshen Village, James in Steuben Co., and John also in Goshen. So, I know he was there! In Niagara, there is a George W. Howell on the census index in 1820 living in Cambridge, and in 1840 living in Lockport. Would you mind seeing if you can figure where George might fit into your research. These are the things that will help you establish who he is. He was born in NY, as was all his children. His birth date, by the census, is close to 1798. He has an 82 yr. old, Sarah Howell, living with him, so I'm assuming his Mom is a 'Sarah'. He also has a Renedy, James, Clarke, Bellows, and Hurd living with him. Do you see any connection to those names? He is a miller working at a sawmill. I noticed William Howell who lived in Niagara started up a sawmill...that's interesting?! George's sons names are Charles R., William G., and Jackson. His daughter's are Sophia and Mary. I'm interested in the son, William. I'm thinking that might be what the W. stands for in George's name. I know there is also some William Howell's in Niagara. Her name is Kristin and her address: wedge@inet-1.com. I believe she said that there was also an Abraham in the line. Any thing on this family would be greatly appreciated. You can send it to her or myself. I have her permission to post it. Thank you so much for this forum to help others. Sheila Texas
