    1. Carpenter, Carman, Coles, Doty, Dun, Runyon
    2. Dear Orange Co List, I know that some of you have seen the Carpenter related letters. I just composed this and sent it to one such researcher. As it involves so many families, I decided to put it on the list to see if anyone else might be interested. I was originally sending data on one Jesse Coles, Oyster Bay, related to Carpenters. This letter gets complicated because I strung a tail to it, which I don't expect you to worry about! But, keep in mind we started out looking for Carman Carpenter when we go into this Carpenter >Albertson > Coles question! I have not ruled out the possibility that these unruley Carpenters, both Carman and Moses, of Orange Co. and who seem to be related to the rest of the Or. Co., via Jamaica or OB Carpenters (we know related to begin with), are not descended from Hope Carpenter's NJ unidentified line - (where there are more Carmans and Moores than you can shake a stick at). My guess is that you already have this, but this is an extraction of the CD abstract: 10:0184 Joseph Coles, OB, Qu. Co. 12/jan/1780 Wife: Freelove Sons: Jesse, Stephem and Robert Dau: Achsah Craft, Elizabeth Feeks, Anne Mott, Zipporah Coles, Sarah Willis Wit: Daniel Albertson, David Doty, Caleb Cole proved 31 Dec. 1781 Note: One of the documents that I have found that pertain to my Moses Carpenter is an abstract listed in the Or. Co., NY wills book, published by the OCGS, Page 6 Liber A page 57 PHINIUS DUN of Goshen Will made Dec. 26, 1788 Probated Jan. 9, 1789 Wife - Anna Dun Daughters Zeruiah Dun, Elizabeth Dun Executors - Anna Dun, Moses Carpenter Witnesses : Calvil Shepard and Ezra Doty I have tried to identify all of the individuals named above: 1. There are a couple Phinius Duns and I have not been able to nail this one down. The Duns were very interrelated with the Suttons, Dunhams, and other NJ families from whom my Moses Carpenters first wife, Elizabeth Runyon was probably related. 2. I have found a Colvil Shepard husband of Anne Owen 6 (Ebenezer Owen m. Temperence Helm 5, Temperance Woodhull 4 m William Helme, Temperance Topping 3 m Richard Woodhull, Sarah White m John Topping, John White m Anne Cooper) in the RootsWeb's WorldConnect project. >From my Wisner line, I connect at the Temperance Topping generation (assuming the above to be correct) but that doesn't help me with identifying the parents of Moses Carpenter or explain his role as executor of Phinius Dun will, that I can now see, anyway. I noticed when doing the Albertson research for Robin that I was running to Woodhulls, OB Carpenters, Coles, and Dotys. (which of course, made me think of this will) 3. I have not identified Ezra Doty Strangely enough a couple coincidences interest me. 1. Phineas Dun lived near Joseph Carpenter at GreyCourt 2. I began this quest trying to find out the relationship (if any) between Phineas Dun or his wife Anne (unidentified, possible Burgess) and found 3. Jeremiah Dun, Piscataway, NJ, (had to be a relative of Phinias above, possible father, brother, or uncle) m. 1. Sarah Hull 2. Margaret Carman (probably no children), but with Sarah Hull he had: Phineas b. 1734 Elizabeth b 1735 m a FitzRandolph Naham b 1737 Moses b. 1742 Philip b 1744 Benjamin b 1746 Hugh b 1740 d. April 4, 1826. He married Abigail Carman (Piscataway, NJ where my Elizabeth Runyons father was from) and they had Carman Dunn b. 1764 Sarah Keziah Ursula Abigail Then we have a Hugh Dunn who married Rachel Moore, and it just goes on and on! 4. Carman Carpenter whose identity we were trying to establish in the first place!
