Hi! My name is Gary James and I am seeking any info I can find on a Hiram/Hirum B. Seamans/Seamons. It is said he was born abt. 1847 in NY. His granddaughter said during an interview that she thought he was from around Elmira, NY, that she thought he was a blacksmith in the Civil War and that he had a brother named William. --- I'm afraid that is about all we know about this man's early life. Apparently, somewhere between 1847 and 1878 he, and/or his family, migrated to Fayette Co., IA (maybe after the Civil War), as he married a Katherine Siglin on 18 Apr 1878 in Fayette Co., IA. I am currently in the process of exploring the the Civil War rosters for his name and have found one -- "3-30 Seaman Hiram M 32 b orange widower mechant. - 1865 hurley 26 reg mo. 9 19 61 sgt 2n and lst lt in 39 mon wounded" with the "26th REGIMENT INFANTRY.--("2nd ONEIDA REGIMENT.")
