    1. [NYORANGE] ELLISON SURNAME
    2. William Staples
    3. I have been trying to establish Ellison (Allison) connection for some time. My grandfather had a brother whose first name was Ellison, born in Ulster County (Marlboro). I always assumed that the name came from a mother/grandmother surname, which was very common during the 1800 s. One of the Ulster/Orange ancestors was married into the Sayre family who had people with the middle name of Ellison. I have noresearched this connection to any extent. In my original research I found many Ellisons in the area. Cochrane's History of Marlboro lists Estelle, Francis, Irene, John and Milton Ellison. Eager's History of Orange County lists Thomas and William Ellison in New Windsor.
