The first of the family to come to America was his Grandfather , George Cox, a native of England, who emigrated to this country and, setting in Orange County, becoming propietor of the Salisbury Mills. These our subject's, George W.., was born and reared. In youth he learned the carpenter's trade, and became a contractor and builder in the vicinity of Deckertown and Port Jervic. He finally came to Middletown, where his closing years were spent and where his dealth occurred. Next he went to Orange, N.J. where he worked at his trade, gradually turning his attention to contracting and building. He was employed in that way both in Orange and Easr Orange, N.J. In the fall of 1893, he came back to Middletown, where he has since engaged in building. He has erected two residences on Prince Street and sold to other parties, and also erected the residence he now occupies on Spring Street, being also the owner of the three adjoining lots. In the summer of 1894, Mr. Cox and his brother secured the necessary lease from the traction company and erected the Roller Coaster building at Mid-way Park. When the enterprise was almost completed, they formed a company, which was incorporated as New York & New Jersey Roller Coaster Company, our subject being Vice-President, and his brother Secretary and General Manager. The scheme has proven a successful one, and will undoubtedly be remunerative to the propietors. The building is arranged so that there is an elevation of one hundred and twenty- five feet and an incline of four hundred feet, the coaster being three-fourths of a mile in length. It has provben one of the greatest attractions of the park, and as a business venture is a success.
