Hello List- I am researching my Hayes line and have found a reference to an obit (below) in the Thrall Index that is for my great uncle Harvey B. Hayes. Is there a Thrall Newspaper? Does anyone have access to this obit? And, where/how can I get a copy of it? I'd like to find the cemetery where he was interred and know if anyone besides his wife, Elsie, was mentioned in the write-up. Thanks for any advice. Lorie NEWSPAPER: THR SECTION/PAGE: p.14 DATE OF OBIT: 1985,9,26
NEWSPAPER: THR tells you that the publication is the Times Herald Record, or Record Online. You can do an archive search for some year ranges, but I can't think of the protocol right now. Maybe somebody will post it. Yes, the church and cemetery do still exist. I have worshipped in the church in recent years and have visited the cemetery. My 5X great grandfather, Philip McConnell was one who helped found the church. I have photos of the church. Just in case you havent used this - I have had fabulous results here. http://www.familysearch.org has a new feature. choose "See prototype for searching millions of records" from the home page, then click on the map for the records they are adding to a specific area - many of these are actual certificates that you can click and see. FREE Since these records are from a specific area I just used the surname .This brings up a new page. 1.. At the top are light blue "narrow by" possibilities if you get too many "hits" (remember at the bottom are the number of pages of hits, not all may be on the first screen) 2.. Scroll through the possibles and click on any names that are yours. This brings up more information. At the right click on "record image" and presto there is a digital copy of the original record which you can enlarge to read, print or save. (all functions listed at the top.) Lil

I Show that Benjamin V. Meyers/Myers is the son of Daniel and Hannah (Van Fleet) Myers. It looks like my info came from the Myer's Family Bible (GMNJ) and no Richard is listed. Likely related, but if born between 1800 - 1808 there's not a lot of room. I'm looking to see if I can find better source info. >From the New England Historic Genealogical Society's newsletter, eNews. Used with permission. Spotlight: Catholic Cemetery Databases by Valerie Beaudrault Maine Catholic Cemetery Committee Database www.portlanddiocese.net/genealogy_main.php The idea for developing an online database for the cemeteries in the Portland Catholic diocese was generated by the cemetery managers. They saw a need to develop a tool to assist genealogists and family members in finding their long lost loved ones. This project has the support of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland. The present-day Diocese of Portland includes the entire state of Maine. The database is a work in progress. The records of 8 of the 65 cemeteries in the diocese have been digitized and uploaded to the website: Calvary in South Portland; Mt. Pleasant in Bangor; and St. Francis in Waterville; Notre Dame in Springvale; St. Ignatius in Sanford; St. Joseph and St. Mary’s in Biddeford; and St. Peter’s in Lewiston. The database can be searched by name only. You must use the full surname or given name of the deceased person, not just a few letters, in order to generate results. Choose a cemetery from the dropdown list and enter a name in the search box. The search results returned contain the full name and year of death. Click on the name link to access the detailed plot record. The fields in the detailed record include: name, maiden name, residence, parents' names, section, block, lot, row, grave number, age, date died, mausoleum, columbarium, and notes. The notes field includes such information as military service of the deceased. The amount of information in the individual records varies greatly. Catholic Cemeteries Commission, Nova Scotia www.ccchalifax.com/index.html The Catholic Cemeteries Commission oversees three Catholic Cemeteries in Halifax and Sackville, Nova Scotia. They are as follows: Holy Cross Cemetery. This cemetery, located in Halifax, was opened in 1843. There have been approximately 23,000 burials in the cemetery. Mount Olivet Cemetery. Also located in Halifax, this cemetery opened in 1896. It is the final resting place for victims of the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion. There are about 25,000 interments in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Gates of Heaven Cemetery. This cemetery, which opened in 1938, is located in Sackville, Nova Scotia. Among its residents is Premier Angus L. MacDonald. Click on the Interment Search link to access the database search page. The database can be searched by name, cemetery, and plot. For a name search, enter the deceased’s first name and/or last name and click on the submit button. Entering “John” and “Smith” will bring up all individuals with the last name “Smith” and everyone with the first name “John” who have been buried in all three cemeteries. By choosing the cemetery search, you can bring up the names of all persons buried in a particular cemetery in alphabetical order. Searching by plot will bring up everyone in all of the cemeteries buried in a plot with that designation. The search results returned for a name search include first name, last name, age, and cemetery. For a cemetery or plot search, the grave number is substituted for the age field. Click on the individual record to bring up the detailed interment record. The data fields in the detailed record include: full name, interment date, age, status, nativity, cemetery name, section, plot, grave number, funeral home, and cremation. The place of nativity and funeral home name are often abbreviated, without a key to identify them. The status field includes a number of types of information such as occupation, marital status, financial status (pauper), and name of spouse. There are also hand drawn maps of the Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mount Olivet Cemetery. You will need Adobe Reader to view the maps.
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me on the death of my GG Grandmother and GG Grandfather. Her name was Anna or Annie, G or J , Miller. Some census say her middle initial was G and others say J. I think is was however the reader read it. She was b Sep 1865 in Bloomingburg, NY. She married my GG Grandfather, Frank Purdy (b Sep 1857; d abt 1937) 22 Jul 1880, in Bloomingburg. I have a copy of their marriage certificate. They had four daughters: Frances M (Fanny, my G Grandmother), Alice Augusta, Jennie A and Mary D. They were all born in Wallkill, Orange, NY. I have many census' with Anna (Annie) on them living in Middletown and Wallkill. The last census I found, she was working as a housekeeper in Wawayanda and she was 54. I also know that Frank and Anna split around the year 1910. If you can't help me, just let me know. I have been all over Ancestry.com and the internet, including the Orange County website. Thanks again, Patricia Hodge
