looked at summary of the book it stops at p 57 i am interested in the town of monroe the families are Cable/Cabels/ Cables? Hall Redner/Rednor are these families mentioned in section on Monroe 1850 US Census NY, Orange, Monroe, p 279, Roll 573, Dwelling 182, Family 182: All b NY, Aaron Redner, age 24, male, farmer Melissa Redner, 29, **Melissa is the dgt of James Hall and Mary Millicent "Polly" Huff **Daniel Cable, 10, from death records he is son of John Cable and the above Melissa Hall Cable Redner Wm W. It actually doesn't stop at that point. --There are gaps, though. If you put your names in the search bar on the left you will get hits for the Hall and Redner names. That preview includes most of the index. Unfortunately it skips a page or three, but most of us can look there to see if it includes people we're researching. The book is a compilation of information on Orange County families extracted and sourced from other books. Some of the sources are Ruttenbur's History of Orange County, The Early Records of the Presbyterian Church of Goshen, Eager's Outline History of Orange County, Inscriptions of German Reformed Cemetery Of Montgomery, History of the Minisink Country. There are about 16 sources credited. Families are organized alphabetically followed by sections on towns, military rosters and portraits of leading citizens of Newburgh. The book is indexed. I have found it to be a very useful starting point for research on a new line... well worth the money. In the 1850 census for Montgomery, Orange County, there's a listing for Govenier (have found various spellings) Reany listed as a laborer for the John Shafer family. In 1853 there's a marriage of Cornelia Torrey and Governier Rainey in the Dutch Reformed Church. She's listed as from Crawford and he Port Jervis, Orange County, New York. In both listings, the parents are listed as born in New York. I next found Gouvernier and Cornelia in NYC with a child John (Ranney was the spelling of surname this time) in the 1860 census. >From a City Directory, G.M. stayed in NYC until c 1879 and in the 1880 census he's in Oneonta NY with his (?)2nd wife and 4 children. I have found no records of what happened to Cornelia and John. G.M. (Gouverneur Maurice at this point) married Frances Josephine Dean c 1869. The children would all born in NYC, however, the 4th child, May, is only found in the 1880 census with the family. G. M. was an artist, apparently. He's listed as a Portrait Painter in the 1880 census and while in NYC, he worked or had a business as a sign/banner painter. >From the Delaware County site (where Josphine's family lived), there's a date of December 24, 1884 as G.M.'s death date. I would like to find his parents as well as what happened to Cornelia/John and where G.M. and daughter May are buried. Any help will be appreciated. I'm writing to inquire if the Lemond/Lamond/Lemont/Lamont surnames are indexed in the book "Pioneer Families of Orange Co., NY"? I'm looking for possible parents of my John Alexander Lemont/Lamont who was born in Newburgh, around 1820. Thank you for your help. Are the Everett/Everitt Family of Goshen, Orange, NY in the Pioneer Family Book? This family was from Jamaica, Queens, NY and one of the first families in Orange County, NY. Wondering if it was worth the price for me to buy the book? Thanks for reading. Hi - I typed up the list of the people I found with these names, but the chart is too wide to fit in this format. Is it okay to send a Notepad document to your private e-mail? Julia
I just dropped my subscription to Ancestry.com after many years. I have all the info that was there and even created the family tree info that is there. So thanks so much for the assistance. Gaycha
