    1. [NYORANGE] Margaret (?) Thompson m. Jonathan Pearce, Parse, any spelling about 1800-02?
    2. S. Pearce
    3. All,   I am following a lead.  Jonathan Pearce had a son, Joseph Thompson Pearce, a son named for his father evidently, Willis Pearce, and a daughter Sarah Pearce/Pierce Willett, who named her first and only daughter Margaret Marietta Willett.  These children's mother died when they were quite small; maybe when Joseph was born or a couple of years later.  Their stepmother was named Catherine.  Their father had moved from Pochuck, Vernon Twp., Sussex Co., on the Orange Co. line to Ontario Co. about 1804.  Sarah was born 1805.  Willis was born about 1804.  Joseph, about 1807.   I have been considering that maybe the mother had the surname Thompson which does show up in old Orange Co.  I haven't really gotten anywhere with that, but now I wonder if there was a Margaret or Marietta Thompson probably born about 1780-85 maybe in Orange Co. or environs who may have married a Jonathan somebody (where the name of record might be something like Parce or Pearse or Pearce), b. 1764.  The name "Margaret" and "Marietta" come from out of nowhere and don't show anywhere else.  Could be from the Willett side; I am just ot sure.  The Willetts were from Middlesex Co., NJ, earlier from Hunterdon Co., NJ. Thank you for any assist. Sharon Pearce, sharpearce@yahoo.com

    3. Hi, Pat - You don't need an appointment to enter the cemeteries, but may want to call ahead to make an if you want to speak with the cemetery managers. The Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery is actually on the Orange County side of the Sullivan County line (the Shawangunkill is the border at this point). Have fun! --- On Fri, 9/18/09, Patricia Hodge <pgh2008@verizon.net> wrote: ...Does anyone know if you need appointments to any of the old cemetaries?... Pat

    3. That sounds fantastic.  We were going up to Middletown, NY to investigate old cemetaries and check out the ones where my relatives are burried.  We may go to this re-enactment in Newburgh.  We have an RV and will be parking in Goshen.  Does anyone know if you need appointments to any of the old cemetaries?  We will be going to Wallkill Cemetary, Newburgh and even Bloomingsburgh, but that one is in Sullivan Cty. Thanks for the help, Pat Hodge ________________________________ From: "nyorange-request@rootsweb.com" <nyorange-request@rootsweb.com> To: nyorange@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, September 18, 2009 3:01:11 AM Subject: NYORANGE Digest, Vol 4, Issue 90 Today's Topics:   1. 2. juliasgenes
    3. The following blog has all the ins and many outs of obtaining vital records from NYS (NYC is slightly different, but still not easy). Read the comments and follow the updated info links. Be SURE to send for the death certificate from the NYS Department of Health in Albany and NOT from the local town/city clerk. It's usually the same amount of money through the clerk and a lot faster, but it's only an extract of the info typed onto a form letter, whereas from the DoH, you wait a whole lot longer (up to six months, I've heard), but you get a copy of the actual document with all the info intact. In New Yorkese, "upstate" means anywhere north of NYC: http://ny-genes.blogspot.com/2008/02/how-to-obtain-copies-of-vital-records.html --- On Mon, 9/7/09, Leslie Vaughn <leslievaughn@cfl.rr.com> wrote: ...get a copy of her death certificate from the state of New  York... 3. Diane if it is a microfiche--not a microfilm, you pay only 15 cents per page of microfiche and it stays in your local FHC forever and you can refer back to it as you find new things to research. I would gamble that it would have what you are looking for. I would also attempt to get a copy of her death certificate from the state of New York. I am unfamiliar of the process but the information should be readily available on-line or someone on this list can help you. I have heard you need to be extra patient with New York to get what you want. 3. You are absolutely correct: it IS the historical society that had their stuff in boxes in the Goshen library basement, at least 1-1/2 years ago. You can check that's what I said below. Perhaps the historical society and the genealogical society could meld? It could only enhance the services and resources of both groups! And then maybe you could be open more often for us people who work during the day and live at a distance. I'm sure it would lower overhead for you both, too, and consolidate grant writing. 3. Yes, that's correct. The Historical Society is the group that operated out of boxes stored in the library basement about 1-1/2 years ago. The Goshen librarians had no idea what was there or how to find it, so I had to wait for an HS volunteer to come to the library (once a week?, for a few hours) and hunt up info for me, then mail it to me. They used to have a small, but active office in the library near the parking lot entrance when I first went there about 7 years ago. Too bad they lost it. I hope that their collection has found a place where it can be out in the open. Basement cardboard boxes get moldy fast and things get lost, too! --- On Tue, 9/1/09, Carol VanBuren <ty@warwick.net> wrote: The Orange County Historical Society had space at the Goshen Library.
