Hi Julia: There's just a newspaper clipping of the accident pasted inside the front cover of the Snyder Bible. It doesn't show the name of the paper or the date, but it does say, "A fatal accident occurred at 6:45 o'clock this morning to Elias Snyder, a lad of 16 years, at Germantown." It continues with his place of work, the engine he was riding on, his father's name and address, etc. The entry for his death in the Bible shows September 16, 1893. Thank you very much for looking. I'll check the Middletown Argus. Hi - There was a recent request for info on headstones in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Jervis, NY that a kind list member filled. Here's another resource: Port Jervis is geographically located in the overall Minisink Valley area. I mention this because the historical society local to PJ is the Minisink Valley Historical Society: http://minisink.org/index.shtml . They have burial records of the Cemetery's internees (not the headstones) - names, date of burial, plot numbers, etc. I have a copy of the Johnson page, myself. The MVHS has a small forum at it's site in which to enter queries. There's also a Minisink Valley mailing list on Rootsweb - it's very quiet and I don't know if anyone from the MVHS ever posts on it or not: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/usa/misc/misc.html#MinisinkValley
Hi - What paper and what date did you find the newspaper item in? I looked through microfilm at the Middletown library and couldn't find a mention of him, which I think is odd. I checked for the week following his 16 Sep 1893 death in the dailies and the next 2 issues in the weekly. I even checked this mailing list's archives to see that I wrote down the correct date. Although I found an item about a similar death in Trenton, NJ, plenty of other items for Port Jervis residents, even social notes from teensy-weensy Milford, PA, I didn't see anything about Elias' death. I looked at: Middletown Daily Press Middletown Daily Times Orange County Press I didn't look through the Middletown Argus as it's readily available online at ancestry.com and historical newspaper archive. I'll try to get to Port Jervis one day to look through the PJ paper, I just can't promise when. Yours, Julia
Is anyone researching Lucy Moore who married William Monell in 1801 in Minisink? She is a possible sibling to my Isaac Moore. Nothing conclusive; that's what I am trying to find out. Lois in Auburn, CA
If inter-library loan doesn't work out, you can try the Allen County Public Library [Indiana]. Their genealogy department has nearly every genealogy publication known to humankind and they'll send you copies of articles at reasonably small rates. If you've ever heard of the PERSI (Periodical Source Index), this is them. If your library allows you access to HeritageQuest Online, you can search the PERSI database there. http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/index.html http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/persi.html They also have useful downloadable guides, some local online databases, and a newsy little blog. --- On Sun, 3/7/10, Goldsage@aol.com <Goldsage@aol.com> wrote: Check with the interlibrary loan department with your county library...
Check with the interlibrary loan department with your county library. They can usually get whatever you need. In a message dated 3/7/2010 11:56:26 A.M. I am doing some research for my sister-in-law. She is looking for information regarding her great-grandmother Margaret (Maggie) KYLES ANDERSON, born 1858 in New York City. I believe her parents were Thomas and Jane KYLES. Margaret had a twin brother also named Thomas KYLES. From about 1860 on, the ANDERSON family and descendants all lived in Hell's Kitchen on the west side of Manhattan. That is really all I have on these folks, however there were two messages posted to this list close to ten years ago referencing the Kyles family line or family name. I would be interested to hear from anyone with ties to the Kyles family Thanks to all -- Steve Morgan Wilmington North Carolina

Dunning is worthy of being called a "Magnus Opus" [or "Great Work"]. Long buried in the basement of the 1841 Court house in a closet under the rear stairwell was an old box of folded up ancient papers. I decided to investigate and what a surprise to discover hundreds of old Jury Lists from 1798 until about 1905 all crunched into this old box. After bring the new discovery to our next meeting, about 7 volunteers met in the basement around a table and sorted out this pile of fragile old papers by year and put them in file folders. I took the first few years home and put them into a manageable database - Ken Dunning became quite interested and took over the project and so far has spent many hours deciphering the old hand writings and organizing the data. Volume One contains over 13,000 entries in alphabetical order with a cross reference to the original document it was taken from of eligible Jurors, Grand Jurors, constables, disqualified Jurors, names of Town Officials and on occasion a notice of death of a Juror. In most cases the occupation of the person is also given. It almost serves as a census of Freeholders for the years in between the official census reports. Two types of lists were found for each year: Official individual town lists of eligible freeholders and Official county lists of the panels drawn for each of the Quarterly Session Courts and the Circuit Courts - some held in Goshen and others held in Newburgh. The postpaid price for this new volume is $22.00. Volume Two starting with 1826 is already underway and could be ready as early as next year. Warwick Historical Papers Volume Three by Mr. Terry Hann will take its readers back into the streets and homes of the Town of Warwick through the endless transcriptions of older Warwick area newspapers. This I can personally attest to as I became glued to the text as I indexed every page. Researchers and other readers will experience the sensation of living there at the time - many articles are historical in nature and others simply tell the town's stories as they happened. Mr. Hann still continues to tirelessly cull through the hard to read microfilms of these newspapers for future volumes of these much forgotten about times in the former resident's lives - doing so much more than giving them honorable mention as is usually done with a line or two in a printed genealogy or local history. Volumes One and Two, a combined book to which I added an every name index is still available from the OCGS. It contains 3 former booklets of the Warwick Historical Society packed full of historical and genealogical information. Mr. Hann's continuing work make great additions to that series that has been dormant for so many years. The postpaid price for Warwick Historical Papers Volume Three is $20.00. Volume Four is in the indexing stage and will be available soon. I understand that Volume Five is in the works but no time line has been set.
