Hi, I am looking for information about the family of Fred D. Adams from Highland Mills (Woodbury), NY. I have reason to believe that his father, Henry "Harry" Adams was a cousin to my 2G grandfather, William Paul. I know that Harry was born in Middletown, NY on 9 Jun 1882 and his parents were William Adams and Sarah Roberts. Fred's brother, David H. Adams, told me years ago that Harry Adams and William Paul were "cousins". I've been able to find out that both their mothers maiden names were Roberts (Henry's mother was Sarah, as stated above; William Pauls mother was Marion/Mary). If anyone has any information about the Adams or Paul families from the Highland Mills/Woodbury area, please contact me. This is a huge brick wall and I'm trying very hard to solve this mystery. Mike
From Monday September 20th to noon Friday September 24th, 2010, the Orange County Genealogical Society will host another "research week". Researchers from other areas will eat and sleep at the Conference Center near Warwick, and be bussed to Goshen (or anywhere else in Orange County) to do genealogical research at OCGS, Surrogate Court, Orange County land records, etc. OCGS will be open each day Monday through Thursday from 9:15 AM to 4:15 PM and each evening 7 PM to 9 PM, then Friday from 8:30 to noon. Details can be seen at http://ocgsny.org/programsevents/programsevents.htm. Look for "Research Week" on that page. A link to the Orange County Genealogy Research Week Registration form can be found just below that paragraph. Come see us in September. Marty Irons Goshen NY k2mi@frontiernet.net OCGS volunteer findagrave.com contributor since May 2007 member, Irons Y-DNA project at familytreedna.com May all your ancestors YELL at you, SCREAM at the top of their lungs, telling you how and where to find them.
I received a copy of the news item from Susan Bennett-Perkowski, but I have not received an obit. The ones you sent apparently didn't make it to me. You may send directly to my e-mail. Did the info on the news items & obit on Snyder ( the poor guy that hitched a ride on an Erie train only to fall to his death) ever come through? I don't remember seeing the post. And did the message and attachments reach the woman who was searching Elias? Let me know if they didn't make it & I'll send then again.
1 There are a batch of books available online at the HeritageQuest site that cover Gardner/Gardiner genealogy and there are also some commemorative books that cover early Newburgh, NY history. Ask your local librarian if your library subscribes to HeritageQuest. 2 Although I found no Hezekiah mentioned, this following book has historic information on early Gardner/Gardiners of Newburgh and nearby Gardnertown. You can download the book as a searchable PDF: History of Orange County, New York (1881) Ruttenber, Edward Manning, 1825-1907; Clark, L. H. (Lewis H.) http://www.archive.org/details/cu31924028832693 3 Again, no Hezekiah, but a bunch of other Gardner/Gardiners are documented at the Old Town Cemetery [Newburgh] site: http://www.oldtowncemetery.org/ 4 I haven't yet consulted the woman, but I'm told that the Newburgh Local Historian is a crackerjack. Sorry, but I can't remember her name. Her office is located within the Newburgh Free Library - perhaps she can help you? http://www.newburghlibrary.org/localhistory/ResourcesoftheLocalHistoryGenealogyResearchRoom.htm Good luck.
The Minisink Valley Historical Society has burial information for Laurel Grove Cemetery. Perhaps birthdates are included in the records??? http://www.minisink.org/ As for the Find-a-Grave site, the last I checked there were relatively few listings online for this cemetery. But if you want a photo of a particular gravesite, you can post a request. Best of luck.

There should be a short obituary in one of the Port Jervis newspapers which are on film at the PJ Library.....a great source of info. The spelling for the street is McAllister and most of the family is listed under this spelling in the Laurel Grove Cem. Index and on the census. That may be one reason why nothing was found.
