Hi, I'm a new kid on the block,my name is Bradford Cornell and I live in the northern Vermont town of Wolcott. I'm looking for my ggrandmother Lucy A. Martin. Lucy was born 5-26-1838 in NY City. She married George Whitehead Cornell [ b. 12-14-1837 in NYC ] on 5-29-1861, at this point both she and George lived in New-Windsor, Orange Co. she had 4 children Elizabeth Jane, Ella E., Henry, and James Martin Cornell-my grandfather. She died after 1894 and the last address is in Newburgh, NY. She was related to "J.M.C. Martin's Sons Brushes" estab. 1830,107&109 Fulton St. NY. I would like to know her lineage, I have the Cornell side but nothing of the Martins. Anybody know anything? Hello, Elizabeth - The New City (Rockland County, NY) Library has the Millspaugh genealogy, and I checked the index and found several Harrises and Barkleys in the index, and copied a few pages. This one entry looked interesting: "#1238 - Alexander - b. Sept. 4, 1789 d.1832. Constable of Bullville, NY and said to have been the strongest man in Orange Co. m. Lucretia Barkley daughter of James & Mary Barkley, and d.Feb.23,1862. As a widow she m. Thomas Harris April 3, 1834. Family recorded US censi Walklkill,NY 1820; Crawford,NY 1830; widow Newburg, NY 1860 living with son Renwick #12384 and listed as b.1794/5. Children - all B. Thompson Ridge, NY -" (typed as found) Since there are Millspaughs, Harrises and Barkleys in one package, is this maybe the line you want? I'll check again if you have any first names. The book is typewritten, but very clear. If you send me your address privately, I'll send you the five/six pages I copied. Christmas Greetings to all the Orange County researchers! What a fortunate group of people we are to have such a wonderful communication tool and so many warm-hearted participants to help us access information about our families. Many thanks to each one that have contributed! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Millennium. Special thanks to our coordinator! I am searching for confirmation of the parents of my GG Grandfather DANIEL BENEDICT who was born Feb. 14, 1811 in Orange County, NY. Most likely the parents are WALLACE BENEDICT (b. 1776 Warwick, Orange County) and Rachel Depew. In the Benedict Volumes, Wallace is listed with a son Daniel who would be in the age range. The clues fit because: 1. Wallace and family moved to Indiana about 1839. A book on early pioneers in Blackford Co., IN mention Wallace and Rachel and the fact that sons Peter and Daniel came to IN also. 2. Daniel has a son John born 1842 in Indiana, he also has a son Wallace. 3. The name Wallace pops up again in my grandfather, CLIFTON WALLACE BENEDICT (Richardson County, NE) If anyone has any information of WALLACE or DANIEL BENEDICT, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance, Joan Bray
Thank you all who responded. It turned out my ggrandmother died in Cornwall Hospital, a fact that my mother neglected to tell me. I find that if I keep quizzing my mother eventually she will remember something that she assumed I knew. Robin Newburgh
Dear Listers, I am searching for information regarding Soloman LEONARD, born about 1770, Onondaga, married to Hulda HODGE, born about 1770, Onondaga, married probably in Deer Park, Orange, where their daughter Mary LEONARD was born. Mary was born 12 Sep 1802, Deer Park, Orange. She married About 1821 in Pennsylvania to Benoni CAMPBELL. She died 30 Jun 1850 while crossing the plains. Any information that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Solomon LEONARD would be my ggg grandfather. Thank you! Max
Quick question. My ggfather died in Newburgh, NY and had a military funeral. No record at the church(St. Patricks) or their cemetery. On Veterans Day(ususally Nov 11) the various veterans groups in my area place small American flags on the veterans graves. Is their an organisation in Newburgh, that I could contact, that might maintain lists of veterans and their respective gravesites? TIA Bill Fitzgerald wmfitzgerald@mediaone.net
Hi Robin, If your ggrandmother lived in Newburgh but for some reason went to Cornwall hospital and died there, her death certificate would not be in Newburgh. The death certificate is filed where the person died. But, then in 1917 I had two Great Uncles die, at home, in the City of Newburgh. No certifcates were found, so I wrote to NYS and recieved both. Give it a try.... Sandy Williams --- Rmgalage@cs.com wrote: > My ggrandmother was b. in Newburgh in 1883. My ggrandmother was b. in Newburgh in 1883. She died in Newburgh in 1944. Would you believe that the City of Newburgh does not have on file either a birth or death certificate for her. It is like she didn't exist. Unfortunately, the church her parents belong to at the time of her birth doesn't exist anymore. Would there be any other place that would have records for her. Would the Dept. of Health have records even though Newburgh doesn't? I know she died in Newburgh. Any help would be appreciated. Robin Newburgh
I have relatives that belonged to St. John's Methodist Church in Newburgh during the late 1800s. It used to be at the foot of Broadway. It is no longer there and I was wondering if anyone knew if the records for this church is available. What would have happened to them when the church closed. My mother seems to think this church became the Trinity Methodist Church on Liberty St. I don't think that is there either. I would appreciate any suggestions. Robin Newburgh
The OC Gen Soc in Goshen sells a beautiful set of 4 maps of OC that were made circa 1860 and sized about 3'x4' each. When put together they are a FANTASTIC reference for all of the families that owned property at that time. I was able to connect 3 family lines thanks to this set of maps as they showed their farms to be contiguous. They cost about $6 each a couple of years ago and were well worth the small cost. The book "Cemeteries of the Town of Minisink" (OCGS, 1988) has on page viii a reproduciton of the "Town of Minisink Farm Map" of 1875. No source is given, but the compiler of the book is Edna D. Raymond. If you're on the list here, Edna, can you provide a map source? It would be terrific to have a blow-up copy. AND, does anyone know of other such maps (for other OC towns)? This map shows locations for a number of familiar names, including Reeve, Bennet, Horton, Case, Clark, Harding, Runyan, Wisner...and more. It also shows District numbers (1-10) that may or may not correspond to the district numbers found on various deeds. Finally, the map also shows (curiously) a cemetery NOT listed in the book (found in the northwesterly quadrant--about the middle of Rome District #3). Robin C.

Sorry to be such a pest..it just dawned on me to list the Illinois 1850 census of my great grandpa and boarders and see if anyone out there recognizes any of these names? I believe they came from your area. Illinois 1850 census name age place born George W. Howell 52 NY Nancy Howell 43 Ill. Charles R. Howell 22 NY William G Howell 19 NY Jackson Howell 21 NY Sarah Howell 82 NY George Bellows(Billows?) 18 NY (Hirem?) Clarke 42 Upper Canada Angeline Clarke 14 NY I believe Bellows/Billows is a relative. Do you see that surname in your area? Any connection to Howell? I realize this is a bit lengthy...but I really need help. I've combed thru the internet...I really need the help of you.... Thankx so much, -Kristan
Help!! Benjamin Howell an early settler of Ridgebury had a son named George W. HOWELL who settled in Goshen Village. I believe this is my g+ grandpa who was born in New York around 1798 and is found in Illinois on the 1850 census. His mother, Sarah Howell, age 82 is living with him. Does anyone have any information and dates for me on George or Benjamin? Does someone have access to the Orange Co. Census Index for 1850? I'm wondering if George is not on it, because he moved to Illinois then. Any help? I could sure some!! Thankx so much! -Kristan
