    2. Carol Jo Thompson
    3. Hi Keith -- Nice to meet another Thompson, but Thompson is a name that was "taken" by my family a bit over 100 years ago -- goes nowhere for my family roots! The name I'm searching in Orange County is lots more difficult -- SMITH! (no kidding!) Robert was in the Revolution, but all I've located following that track is his signature! Wish it were Thompson -- I'd probably find a lot more. Best regards and good hunting, Carol Jo

    1. Directories for Warwick, NY, for 1904-1911
    2. R Meehan
    3. Hello, List, Does anyone have access to directories of residents for Warwick NY for the years between 1904 and 1911? Or advice on where to locate same? Or perhaps the NYS census[es] for these years? I am looking for a Laura Gay Smith and anyone with the surname CHARLESWORTH. I am trying to pin down the year my grandmother, Annie Charlesworth, arrived in America from England. She may have resided in Warwick during those years. I know she resided there in 1922, the year my mother was born. Thanks and regards, Roberta Meehan antrob@worldnet.att.net

She died after 1894 and the last address is in Newburgh, NY. She was related to "J.M.C. Martin's Sons Brushes" estab. 1830,107&109 Fulton St. NY. I would like to know her lineage, I have the Cornell side but nothing of the Martins. Anybody know anything?" I also am looking for Info. on Henry{mentined above} Cornell b. 2-17-1872 in NYC d. 7-23-1939 in Newburg. The funeral was at St. John's Meth. which is now The First United Methodist. 3. Greetings from a new Lister! I'm doing research into Mc Gregory Van Every, born 27 April 1723 in "Arent's", Orange County, New York. Haven't a CLUE where that place was. And I have an even more difficult one! I'm looking for a place that was written "Hittekezees", but in the spelling of the early 1700s, anything remotely similar may be just what I'm looking for. Any help, or even guesses accepted with sincere gratitude. Sharilyn

    1. Methodist Church
    2. Robin, The Methodist Church actually has a list/digest. I took it for a while but no good. They will do a search for past ministers but you pay $25.00 if they find anything or not. Scheech, can you imagine? Your ancestor worked and bled for the church and they want money to tell you about him. Other wise if you don't have $$ they are difficult to deal with. Keep calling, you are getting different degrees of people who really/don't know what is available. Only deal with the ones who knows what is really available. Good luck you have gotten further than I have. Good luck. Sheila Texas They will also let you look at the records with them. Sounds interesting. I would suggest that anyone who is going to do that call first just to be sure. Since I have gotten two different responses, it makes you wonder which is correct. They also said that they have real old pictures of parishioners.

    2. This is to correct my earlier email. I called First United Methodist Church again today and they now tell me that they have records that go back as far as 1700s. They will also let you look at the records with them. Sounds interesting. I would suggest that anyone who is going to do that call first just to be sure. Since I have gotten two different responses, it makes you wonder which is correct. They also said that they have real old pictures of parishioners. Robin Newburgh

    1. IGI
    2. lhess
    3. Hi, It seems to me so many folk are concerned about the - don't get me wrong, I think it is wonderful too - Family search site that I am very afraid that many folk might be forgetting that the IGI is just an index after all. At best a guide - certainly not proof - my 7th GG is there 7 times - one for each generation - and six of them have inaccurate information. For those who do not know, the information in the IGI is put there in 2 ways. 1. from extractions of parish registers - the C0 and M0 Batch numbers basically. These have as high a degree of reliability as any copied list. and 2. From Patron submission - originally this was a members only thing but is no longer restricted that way. These are the batch numbers starting with 81 etc and a string of numbers. the 81 is the year of submission. REMEMBER - the patron is a person like you and me, sometimes a genealogist, sometimes a member of the LDS church, sometimes someone more interested in finishing his or her genealogy or in lining up with an appropriate title than being accurate. Please use this valuable tool wisely, and remember that it is just that. Even with all the wonders of the internet we still need to see the original parish register or vital record for any semblance of proof. My Orange County families: SMITH ( David 1701-1787 and descendants)- Monroe - 1740 + MCELROY (Alexander) Chester/Monroe/Goshen 1771-1850 MAPES Hendricke Henry - Monroe 1750+ FREDERICK Jacob/Jacob/Jacob Chester/Goshen/Monroe 1758-1890 Associated Orange County names: Cornelius, Rumsey, Post, Stevens, ONeil, Burroughs, Brooks, Newberry, Ferrell Merry Christmas Lil in Vancouver, Canada

    1. St. John's Methodist Church-Newburgh
    2. I posted a few days ago about St. John's Church in Newburgh. I was wondering if any other church would have their records since St. John's is no longer in existence. I found out that First United Methodist Church on Liberty St. in Newburgh has the records. Unfortunately they told me that there was a fire and the records don't go back that far. I needed records back to 1880-90. Those they don't have and they don't have anyone to go through what records they have. An unfortunate situation. Just thought people should know if they are looking for St. John's Church. Robin Newburgh

    1. Holiday Wish~ GEORGE W. HOWELL
    2. Some time ago I received a letter from a daughter who was searching for GEORGE W. HOWELL her Mom who is very ill. I have sent her everything I have. But I have not found the right one. I thought that perhaps Someone in Orange Co would look into their records and make her and her mother's Christmas a very special one. Her mother would like closure on this line. Any devoted Genealogist would understand this. Here is what she has sent to me on the family: There is a George W. Howell in the 1820 and 1830 census index residing in Goshen Village, Orange Co., NY. Somebody sent me an e-mail and said Benjamin Howell, an early settler at Ridgebury, had 3 sons, George W, who resided in Goshen Village, James in Steuben Co., and John also in Goshen. So, I know he was there! In Niagara, there is a George W. Howell on the census index in 1820 living in Cambridge, and in 1840 living in Lockport. Would you mind seeing if you can figure where George might fit into your research. These are the things that will help you establish who he is. He was born in NY, as was all his children. His birth date, by the census, is close to 1798. He has an 82 yr. old, Sarah Howell, living with him, so I'm assuming his Mom is a 'Sarah'. He also has a Renedy, James, Clarke, Bellows, and Hurd living with him. Do you see any connection to those names? He is a miller working at a sawmill. I noticed William Howell who lived in Niagara started up a sawmill...that's interesting?! George's sons names are Charles R., William G., and Jackson. His daughter's are Sophia and Mary. I'm interested in the son, William. I'm thinking that might be what the W. stands for in George's name. I know there is also some William Howell's in Niagara. Her name is Kristin and her address: wedge@inet-1.com. I believe she said that there was also an Abraham in the line. Any thing on this family would be greatly appreciated. You can send it to her or myself. I have her permission to post it. Thank you so much for this forum to help others. Sheila Texas
