Hi Robin-- I have a CLARISSA THOMPSON probably born a little after your cutoff date, c. 1800, who married COE VAN BRUNT, probably around 1820. He was part of a family which lived in the Minisink area at the time you are interested in, but I know little about his parents other than their names--John Van Brunt (b. 19 Jul 1779, either Orange or New Utrecht) and Sarah Smith. Coe had two sisters, Mary Ann and Sarah, and a brother, John. Like you, I'd LOVE to know more about this Clarissa! Maureen P.S. While we're talking about names, does anyone know the derivation of the name COE? -----Original Message----- From: Robin Carpenter [mailto:ANALYTIX@valley.net] Sent: Friday, February 18, 2000 11:34 AM To: NYORANGE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Calling Clarissas Hello OC Researchers: One of my several ongoing searches is for Samuel and Clarissa Carpenter, last seen in an 1815 Minisink sale to Peter Mills of 42 acres in Minisink. I have no idea who Clarissa's family was, and ask if you know of ANY Clarissa (or "Clara," "Claire," or other derivatives) born in Orange County between 1780 and 1795, would you let me know? On December 18, 1915 Ira Thomas of Maybrook was run down by a railroad engine in Danbury, CT. At the time of his death Ira was a freight conductor on the Central New England road and a resident of Maybrook, NY. Ira was born in Wayne County PA in 1864 or 1864. His survivors included his wife and a son Edward, who was by 1915 a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and a resident of the state of Delaware. Based on the caption on the back of a photo of Edward, I believe that Ira's wife was named Phoebe. Ira was the son of Sylvester Thomas and Sarah (Sally) Covert or Covart, both natives of the Deerpark area. Has anyone heard of this family? I'd love to know what happened to Phoebe and Edward after Ira's death. Ann
In "Ancestors & Descendants of Col. Solomon Carpenter" (p. 36) it is said that Solomon first settled in a house on the corner of the Newburgh and Montgomery Roads...now the corner of Main Street and the Sarah Wells Trail. The house was apparently still there at the timne of ADCSC publication (1974). Does anyone here know whether this house still stands? If so, is it in the same location? Is it still a residence? Robin

Hi Dan: This is just to touch base. Although you're probably too courteous to bug me the way I bugged you, I thought you might be wondering what's up with the Ruttenber & Clark shipment. Answer: no delivery yet! Sorry. Robin
Someone named Tom Shepstone posted to the list either on the 15th or 16th and I lost the email. Could you please email me when you receive this. I am researching the name SHEPSTONE and would like to talk to you. Thanks. Robin Newburgh NY
Good morning all, Can anyone tell me where I can find information about Camp LaGuardia? The search engines take me to Korea instead of Chester, Orange county, NY. I would like to know what it is, what records are available, mailing address, phone number, etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Bev in not so sunny AZ, but we need rain!
Count me interested! Kim Altmann

Hello, Listers. Would someone who has the new book "Wawayanda-Our Town" check the index for the surnames OVERTON, CAMPBELL, COCK, and CAVANAUGH (or variations)? I am on a tight budget and I'd like to have more info about what's in the book and if any of my surnames are included before I decide whether or not to buy it right now. Feel free to e-mail me privately with your reply. Thank you to whoever does this. I greatly appreciate the assistance. Beth C.
Thanks Phoebe,Extraction E183 mentions James Mitchell who I suspect is the father on my Richard Mitchell and his brothers James,John,Thomas, and Robert. If anyone has other info. about James, 15 of us researching this family would sure appreciate it. Jack Mitchell in Savannah GA.
Today's Question: What fruit is grown in Florida, Orange Co., NY? Hint: It is roughly spherical Send your answers along with your requests for the following, absolutely free, no holds barred, offer. I have scanned in Chapter VI of Ruttenbur and Clark's History of Orange Co., and converted it to an electronic document using OCR software. I have proof read it very carefully to be sure the names in it are exactly as R&C intended (not necessarily correct!) It is in a MSWord document of about 165kb and can be attached to an e-mail message if your ISP and E-mail software can handle attachments. Because of it's weird formatting, it can not be sent as plain text. Consider that this is a list of all the males of age in 1775 in Orange County, and they are listed by districts, so you can tell where they lived. The advantage of the electronic document which is eleven pages of fine print is that it can be searched for text strings, making it easy to find names. Send all requests to the e-mail address below. Dear Folks, I earlier posted my extractions of Vol C and D to the Orange, Ulster, and Rockland Co. lists. It has occurred to me that so many Orange Co. folks went to Onondaga and Yates Co. that it might be helpful for folks trying to find their earlier origins. Please note, that I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the spelling of the names or places, for many reasons, including difficulty of reading and my unfamiliarity with same. The (m) means the deed was signed by mark. Any names listed as grantor, grantee, borders - neighbors, former owners, etc., plus witnesses and judges that I could read were included. Yate and Onondaga Co. folks please let me know if you would like to see Vol C and D. Phoebe Please note that there were many, many other deeds.
