Thanks for the will abstracts, Phoebe. What are the differences between wills and administrations? Can anyone tell me if copies of the original administrations can be obtained from the NY Archives just like copies of wills? Thanks. It has been brought to my attention that the e-mail address of the US PostOffice was in correct in a previous post. The correct address is www.customeremail.usps.gov . Sorry about that I just passed it along as it came to me. This one works, I tried. Barbara
I DID contact the address given (customer@email.usps.gov) about a Family History Stamp suggestion and they wrote back and said that I should contact <www.stampsonline.com/custcare/phil.htm> with my suggestion for a family history stamp. Patricia MacLean
Dear Listers and List Owener, If there is interest I would like to share the names that popped up on my NY wills CD when I requested "Goshen." Below are the earliest ones. G means G and pre Precinct. I do not know the difference between the two designations, but note that precinct even covers other towns in the early records. Some of the individuals lived in other places and owned land in Goshen. I tried to capture the land descriptions and on some the relatives, although generally I did not abstract the will abstract. We'll see how this goes. NY Wills Goshen The names represent either persons living in Goshen or the Goshen Precinct years 1665-1801 or who had property in the area. Some listed simply as Orange Co. are also listed. 1718 Alsop, Richard lived in Qu Co had 1/17 sh Or. Hello Listers, Does anyone out there have any information on these two families. They both seem to have long histories in Ulster County, mostly in the Township of Plattekill. Many of the Paltridges and some Harris members are buried in the Modena Rural Cemetery. A larger number of Harris members are buried in the Rossville Cemetery. I have a considerable amount of data I will share, but need some gaps filled in. Thanks in advance. Have a good day.......... Hi Mary Anne, I wasn't around in 1875, but unless they moved it, it's was and still is in Orange Co. Hamptonburgh is a small center, 4mi NE of Goshen, 4mi N of Chester, 4mi S of Montgomery and 15mi E of Cornwall. If you are cartographically oriented, it is at 41 deg 26.11 min N latitude and 74 deg 15.63 min W Longitude. Does that answer your question? THE HISTORY OF THE 124TH REGIMENT, NEW YORK STATE VOLUNTEERS by Charles H. Weygant Also known as the "Orange Blossom" Regimental History, this is a long awaited reprint of one of the most widely used and sought after volumes for Orange County Civil War research. Col. Weygant had promised his men upon disbanding in June of 1865, that he would see to it that a history of the regiment was written. It would be a history in which not only the sufferings and deeds of its noble dead, but of its surviving members who fought at Chancellorsville, Beverly's Ford, Gettysburgh, and other battles would be truthfully recorded. 1995 (1877) Reprint, hard cover, 460 pages. $40.00 Prioirty mail $44.00 Send check to: Ornage County Genealogical Society Attention: Orders 101 MainStreet Goshen, NY 10924 ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Karen - I have caught Poucher & Ter - in date errors - but can understand it. They had my GGgGGM dying before her husband - yet she is mentioned (and alive) in his will probation. Upon further investigation and careful feel reading of the gravestone P&T had mistaken a worn "4" for a "1" . With this all of the conflicts went away. Best wishes in resolving your conflict ! ! Hi Listers, I'm off for 3 weeks to sunny, hopefully, Fla. to visit some kin and friends; so I'm unsubscribing for a while. This is one "ah dem der" form letters so some lists hardly know me as I was a "Peeping Tom" but anyway I'll be back to "peep" and write again. Best Wishes, Brad VT
rmharing@acd-pc.com wrote re Rev. Silas LEONARD: <<Do you think he pastored in Newburgh before he came to Goshen? Or the reverse? It's a distance, still a half hour at least by a good highway. There is a book on the Presby church in Goshen readily available which would tell you the years he pastored in Goshen.>> This is from the book "A Tower in the Land of Goshen" (a history of the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen NY): "The longest period during which the Church has been without a spiritual head in all its two and a quarter centuries seems to have been the interval of approximately two years between the death of Mr. Bradner [1732] and the resumption of normal church activities under Rev. Silas LEONARD. ..........Mr. Leonard's pastorate, like Bradner's, is said to have lasted until death, although nothing is recorded of his interment here." Silas LEONARD's will is dated March 27, 1764 and was proved May 21, 1764.
