Hi Phoebe, Thanks again for all of your work in providing the list members with this great information. You said: (I have notes that Samuel (Carpenter) m. Elizabeth Allison (Seversmith) and Joshua m. 1. Hannah Ludlam (Seversmith) and 2 Sarah Burt (Eager pg 423) Is there a date for the marriage of Elizabeth and Samuel? Joseph Allison's daughter, Elizabeth, was "not of age" in 1752 when Joseph wrote his will. Could she be the Elizabeth that married Samuel? Or does the fact that the marriage is mentioned in Richard Allison's will mean that she was Richard's daughter? What is the book by Seversmith that you cited? I look forward to hearing from you. Mary Allison Yonan

Does anyone know if the Orange County Genealogical Society has a website? Thank you. Darwina
Hello Orange County: Excuse me if I've asked this before, but.... Does anyone here know who was John Carpenter Smith? He is listed as a signer of the 1775 Pledge, in the Precinct of Goshen, Blooming Grove District. Seems likely his father was a Smith and his mother a Carpenter. Any info available on him? Robin
Hi Orange Co. List: I'm visiting in Ulster Co. for a few days and I plan to check out some of the local libraries and/or genealogical/historical societies in both Ulster and Orange Co's. Does anyone have any experience with any of the libraries, etc., in Orange Co.? (I've been to the Orange Co. Genealogical Society in Goshen as well as the Historical Society in Goshen.) Also, does anyone know the hours of operation of the Minisink Historical Society (?) in Westtown? I checked out the Orange Co. Genweb site and I did not find a link to libraries or historical societies, just the historians. (I have a whole file of this type of information at home but I neglected to bring it with me.) All of the people I am researching were born in the 1700s or very early 1800s. Thanks so much, Marilyn Hough Stern (usually in Austin, TX) Orange Co. names I'm researching: Armstrong, Bradner, Dunning, Halstead/Halsted, Oldfield, Vail, et al. Neighboring Sussex & Passaic Cos., NJ names: Coon/Koon, Courter, Gould, Hough, Hunt, Jersey, Kinsey, Longwell, Post, Rutan
I'm looking for copies of birth certificates for two of my "CASLIN" ancestors. They were born in Orange County in 1855 and 1857. Can someone give me some direction of who to contact to get these type of records? I'm not sure how New York keeps these type of records or where. Thanks. Email is bbmc@accessus.net Mike Caslin.

In researching my g-grandfather, Robert FITZGERALD, I find that he died in January of 1870. Anyone have any idea what funeral home would have made the arrangements back in that time. He was buried from St. Patricks and buried in their cemetery, however, St. Pats has no record. I did find the obit which stated it was a military funeral, and attended by Moscow's Brass Band. He had served in the rebellion, Crimean war and in the war in India. He was a Sgt. in the NYNG. Thanks for ANY info Bill

Hi Orange Co. List, Does anyone know if the hospital in Middletown which used to be (perhaps still is) a state mental hospital is still in existence? If so, what is it's name now and it's mailing address and/or phone number? I have a friend who wants to contact them for information on a patient who is now deceased. Thank you so much, Marilyn Hough Stern (Austin, TX)
Hi! My name is Gary James and I am seeking any info I can find on a Hiram/Hirum B. Seamans/Seamons. It is said he was born abt. 1847 in NY. His granddaughter said during an interview that she thought he was from around Elmira, NY, that she thought he was a blacksmith in the Civil War and that he had a brother named William. --- I'm afraid that is about all we know about this man's early life. Apparently, somewhere between 1847 and 1878 he, and/or his family, migrated to Fayette Co., IA (maybe after the Civil War), as he married a Katherine Siglin on 18 Apr 1878 in Fayette Co., IA. I am currently in the process of exploring the the Civil War rosters for his name and have found one -- "3-30 Seaman Hiram M 32 b orange widower mechant. - 1865 hurley 26 reg mo. 9 19 61 sgt 2n and lst lt in 39 mon wounded" with the "26th REGIMENT INFANTRY.--("2nd ONEIDA REGIMENT.") Organized at Elmira, N.Y., and mustered in May 21, 1861. Does anyone on this list know anything about this person??? Thanks in advance for any assist. Gary James -- Oklahoma pentaby@alltel.net
