    2. Greenhagen, Susanne
    3. Hello -- When I was growing up in Rock Tavern (back in the early 50s), the Post Office was located next to the RR tracks just off Rte 207 on Twin Arch Road. The info I need is the name of the Post Mistress. I always knew her as "Mrs. Fisher." What was her first name (as a kid I thought her first name was "Missus.") She lived on the south end of Drury Lane, two houses from the intersection of 207. Can anyone help me fill in the blanks.... 3. Linda, I am not connected to the CASH family but I have a book titled "Records of the Ridgebury Presbyterian Church with Inscriptions of Nearby Cemeteries and Other Genealogical Note" compiled by William J. Coulter about 1940 and much later published by the Orange County Genealogical Society. Stewartstown Cemetery is included. It only stated that it is south of Ridgebury. Ridgebury is in the Town of Wawayanda very close to Middletown as you guessed. Perhaps these are the same inscriptions in Foley's "Early Settlers of New York State" but here are the CASH family members recorded in this book: Phebe Millicent CASH wife of J.E.S. Gardner born June 4, 1815 died Aug. 26, 1875, aged 50 yrs. 2 mo. 21 ds. Hannah wife of Doct. Meritt H. CASH & dau of Hon. Joseph & Elizabeth Davis died Aug. 5, 1847 aged 26 yrs. 5 mo. 19 ds. Millicent wife of Ruben CASH who died Sept. 3, 1838 aged 63 yrs. 7 mo. 23 ds. (handwritten note nee Howell) Reuben CASH died June 6, 1828, 61 years Selah J. CASH died Oct. 18, 1833 aged 26 yrs. 1 mo. 7 ds. James M. CASH died Jan. 2, 1838, aged 28 yrs. 28 days. S.Y.R. CASH died May 29, 1836, ae 24 years, 9 days I have never been to the Stewarttown Cemetery and don't know if it still exits. I hope you track it down. Barbara

    3. Cyrus A. Bowne As a representative of a well known family in Orange County, Mr. Bowne has added luster to the honored name he bears. His accurate judgment and superior ability have been displayed in the successful management of his business affairs. Throughout the town of Montgomery, where his farm of one hundred and nine acres is located, he is regarded with the highest respect and confidence as a man of unimpeachable integrity. He was born on this farm March 16, 1857, Mr. Bowne is known throughout the state as a maker of a fine grade of butter, which he markets at a fancy price in the large cities, and has customers whom he supplies the year round. Our subject was the youngest member of the family of nine sons and daughters born to Cyrus H and Hester (Wood) Bowne. of these , Anna married Jenson Fowler, and died when fifty years if age; Susan is the wife of William Y. Denniston, a farmer of this town; Samuel W. is a member of the firm of Scott & Bowne , of New York City, and is engaged in the manufacture of Scott's Emulsion, on the corner of Rose and Pearl Streets, in the Scott & Bowne Building. Mr. Bowne gives his attention to the manufacturing in the United States, while the senior partner looks after the foreign trade. James H. Bowne, the Fourth of the family, in living in Duluth, Minn; Agnes is the wife of Janas Hawkins, a farmer of this town; Obediah is superintendent of compounding room for the Scott & Bowne Company of New York; Emma married John Campbell, and resides on Long Island; Kate is unmarried, and resides with the family of William Y. Denniston. The father of this family was born in Dutches County , N.Y. , where he was reared on a farm. He came to Orange County when a young man, starting out in life for himself, being accompanied on the trip by his widowed mother. In 1834 he married and purchased the farm on which his son, our subject , now resides. This he was very successful in operating, and made it his home until his decease., which occurred when he was fifty years old. He was a member and trustee of the Goodwill Presbyterian Church, with which he had been connected for many years. Mrs. Hester Bowne was born in Orange County, and was the daughter of Washington Wood, a speculator and prominent man of this community. He was seventy Four years of age at the time of his decease, in Sept. 1891. The subject of this sketch remained at home until attaining his majority, with the exception of the time spent in school at Walden and Hudson. When eighteen he assumed the management of the homestead, it being the wish of his mother that he should remain with her. She is now deceased. She was an intelligent and devoted member of the Goodwill Presbyterian Church. September 19, 1883, Cyrus A. Brown was married to Miss Corinne H. Miller, of the town of Hamptonburgh, this county. Their union was blessed by the birth of three children, namely; Carrie, who died when a year old; Earnest and an infant. In politics our subject is a republican on national issues, but during local elections casts a ballot in favor of the man whom he considers will be best fill the office. He, Too is a member of the Presbyterian Church. -----Original Message----- From: gbowne [mailto:gbowne@email.msn.com] Sent: Saturday, March 25, 2000 10:39 PM To: sound1@fcc.net Subject: Bowne I am researching the surname BOWNE Thanks for the info Cyrus Alfred Bowne b 1857 d wife corrine Hawkins Miller children Carrie b 1885 Ernest V b 1890 Raymond C b 1892 I need brothers and sisters and their spouses This may be part of my family My great grandfather was Joseph Bowne b 1827 Whitestown Oneida Co NY and was a farmer his wife was Elizabeth ? on last name she was born in England I do not know his father or brothers and sisters . 1. Stewarttown Cemetery
    2. Hello listers: I am new to the list and to working in this county in New York and I need some help. I found in a book called Early Settlers of NY State by Janet Wethy Foley in vol 2 on page 281 I listed a cemetery with a lot of CASH family in it. I would like to connect with anyone doing research on the name and find out just exactly Stewarttown Cemetery is located. I tried the USGS locator and had no luck. The person who did the transcribing is Miss Ethel Gage of Middletown NY so maybe it is close to Middletown??? Any help with this matter would be appreciated. Sincerely, Linda Coltrin Tucson, AZ

    2. Joanne
    3. Hi Audrey, I found two listings under Bowne in the Sussex Warren history by Snell pg. 13 In Sept., 1692, Andrew Hamilton , who had been appointed Governor, arrived in Jersey, " and was received in a manner that removed every impediment to the re-establishment of the proprietary government" He appointed John Barclay , receiver ands surveyor-general, and Thomas Gordon resident secretary. on the 14th of the month he selected as his council Capt. Isaac Kingsland, Capt. Andrew BOWNE, John Indians, Raritan River, of Roycefield, Samuel Dennis, John Bishop, and Lewis Morris. page 111 During the battle of the wilderness and in turning Lee's right wing in the advance on Richmond the regiment did excellent service, and maintained its reputation for daring hardihood and brilliant exploits. In an engagement on the 28th of May, 1864, the ammunition of the men gave out while they were hardly pressed by the enemy. A new supply was brought from the rear, and Capt. Beckman was shot through both hands as he stretched them forth in the act of distributing ammunition to the men. Lieut Bellis was almost at the same moment mortally wounded, as was also Lieut, Stewart. Capt. Robbins was wounded severely in the shoulder, Lieut Shaw badly in the head, Lieut Wynkoop fearfully in the foot. Liuet BOWNE was the only officer of the First Battalion on the field who was untouched, and he had several narrow escapes. I also found a bio on Cyrus A.Bowne in Orange County, ny ( Orange is on the border of New Jersey) It said he was born March 16, 1857, He had a farm in Montgomery NY ( Orange County). he was know as a fine grade maker of butter through out the State. He was the youngest member of a family of 9 brothers and sisters, his parents being Cyrus H.(born in Dutchess County, NY) and Hester (Wood) Bowne. There is more on Cyrus and Family, if you think it is a connection , I will print the rest. yours in genealogy, Joanne

    2. Dear Orange Co. Researchers, Casually thumbing thru an old, December 1993 COUNTRY LIVING magazine I happened upon a couple pages with pictures of the above. The magazine states, "When Bradford and Margaret Keeler decided to move from their home in New York City in order to raise their children in the country, they were immediately taken by the Horton-Sayer House, a Warwick, NY farmhouse constructed in 1766 by Israel Horton, a colonel in the French and Indian War..." Does anyone know anything about these folks? If so, might be fun if you answer to the list. Phoebe in CA
