Solomon was married at New Windsor, (then Ulster, since 1798) Orange County, New York on 14 April 1787 to Mary Collins of Orange County, by a Presbyterian Minister, John Close (New Windsor Sessions Book: Marriages); Glenn Marshall, Town Historian of New Windsor has interpreted this record as "Solomon Brandige" married on 4 April 1787 to Mary Collins. Mary was born in [Orange County], New York (Census Records) on 16 May 1768; she died probably in Orange County on 12 October 1848. Thanks for your help! Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genalogy lists a Valentine Peters, no birth date given, son of William and Ann -- Ann died 28 Jan 1814, age 51. William and Ann had 8 kids (Hinshaw gives death dates for most of the kids, but not birth dates). The family came from Creek Quaker Monthly Meeting to the New York City Monthly Meeting on 21 November 1800. Creek MM was in Dutchess County, NY in the town of Clinton. If the above looks as if it might be your family, get the Creek MM films from the LDS. I think they are #0017295, #0017296 and #0017297. Cheers, Bob leahy@friend.ly.net Easton, Maryland
Hi all I have been lurking for several months hoping against hope that someone would be looking for the same name I am interested in. No luck so far but I did notice a request for a lookup on the 1840 census. Is it easily accessable? If so would someone be kind enough to look for Ellen (Helene) WHITE Born c 1835 in Orange County NY. Her Name was recorded in that manner on her children's Baptismal Records. Pat

Can someone check a census listing for me. I am looking for a listing for a Hulda Anna Winters who was born in New York on 11 Jan 1839. I believe she was born in Orange County. I am looking for her in the 1850 Census. Her future husband, Nathan Ackley of Morris County, New Jersey, moved to Orange County in the 1850s and became engaged. They moved to Ohio in 1856 and were married. If anyone has any other information on this family I would appreciate it. Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com

Just found out my great-grandparents, Stephen & Almira Griffin Cole, lived at about 15 North St in Middletown. Stephen died in 1941, he was a shop foreman in the RR yards. Almira died in 1963 at the age of 92. They had a whole slew of kids. Wondering if anyone #1: does anyone connect to this family and #2: if anyone lives in the vicinity, could tell me if the home at 15 North St is still in existance. Thanks! -Linnea Travis Miller

My mother grew up in Cornwall and Newburgh. I sent her the question on Buttermilk Falls and this is her reply: Buttermilk Falls no longer exist. It was taken over by West Point and is now their firing range. I searched that a few years back. I think it was in Goshen that they have a picture on the wall of Buttermilk Falls. Valerie Reynolds
Hello I found a Lord John Lovelace in the History Of Orange County , New York. page 33 In 1708 the Government of New York , by the sudden death of John, Lord Lovelace, thr successor of Cornbury, devolved on Richard Ingoldsby, Lieut. Governor, who made an unsuccessful attempt on Canada. page 82 Early settlement of the Town of Newburgh. From the evidence we have, the earliest settlement was on tht German Patent, and on the present site of the village of Newburgh. The first persons we traced there, were the nine Palatines to whom the Patent was granted. The Patent is dated 1719, but the probabilities are, these individuals were there before that date. It appears from the introductory part of the renewed Patent of which a copy is found in our paper - that while Lord Lovelace was Governor of the Province, he had promised a grant to nine Palatines of a tract of land above the Highlands, in pursuance of an instruction from Queen Anne, or letter from her secretary of the state. As they had the promise of Lovelace, Govenor at the time, the fair presumption is, they were here at the date of the promise. Lord Lovlace, it is true, lived but a short time in command of the province, (from December till the succeeding May,) after his arrival; yet this was in the year 1708. There is more on this on page 101. naming some of the proprietors and inhabitantsof the tract of land above Highland at a place called Quassaick, now commonly called Newburgh Patent, in Ulster County. loving subjects--- Alexander Colden, and Richard Albertson, trustees, and Edmond Conklin, jun., William Ward, Thomas Ward, Nathan Furman, Jacob Wedall, Johannes Wandel, Daniel Thurston, James Denton, Cohlass Leveridge, Michael Demott, William Smith, Henry Smith, Duncan Alexander, and William Mitchell. ----- Original Message ----- From: <DReece1952@aol.com> To: <NJ-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 11, 2000 12:44 PM Subject: [NJ] NY NJ Loveless or Lovelace > In the 1850/60 Sullivan County NY census name was spelled Loveless, George's > first marriage was Loveless, second Lovelace and a book on the Reed, Drake > and Grey families in Sullivan county spelled it Lovelace so I know they were > using both spellings early on > > > > 1.
