    3. Ron, According to the "HISTORY of ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK," (1880), Part 2, p. 15: "The history of the Reformed Church at New Paltz begins Jan. 22, 1683, when Rev. Pierre Daillie 'came to New Paltz, and preached twice on the following Sunday.' At his suggestion steps were taken to organize a church, which was effected by choosing Louis Du Bois elder, and Hugo Freer deacon, of the nwe congregation. "The church was a French Reformed Church, upon the pattern by which the Reformed Churches in France were formed. To the Christian families at New Paltz the church order, doctrine, and worship were such as they had been accustomed to in their native land. The 'Reformed Church' on the continent of Europe has had for centuries a peculiar and historical meaning. It signifies a church Calvinistic in doctrine, Presbyterian in government, and the name distinguishes it not only from the Catholic Church, but from all Protestant churches which do not hold the same type of doctrine and government. "There was general agreement among the Reformed Churches of Europe, though not related in the way of government or supervision. It was not difficult for the church of New Paltz to glide into conformity with the Reformed Dutch churches surrounding it when the French language had passed out of use, being succeeded by the Dutch, which was vernacular in Ulster and some adjacent counties." So, Ron, it would appear that, there being Reformed churches in Holland and France, and the indication above, of others on the continental, there were also German and Swiss Reformed churches, as well. My ancestor, Rev. Mauritius Goetschius was, indeed, a pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church. Julie Hesson, endlessly sorting out dead Dutchmen..... My earliest known ancestor, my G5 grandfather Joseph ALLISON, moved to Goshen in Orange County, NY in 1725 and died there in 1755. I have obtained a copy of Joseph Allison's will, which he wrote in 1752, from the NY State Archives which lists the names of his children. They are Joseph, Richard, Richardson, Thomas, Cornelius, Benjamin, Phoebe, Sarah, Elizabeth, Isaac and William. They all lived in Orange County. I trace my ancestry back to Joseph through two of his sons, Richardson and Isaac. I would be most interested in Joseph, Isaac and Richardson ALLISON, but any ALLISON entries would be wonderful. 1. Everton book on Ramapo
    2. RMH
    3. "Yes I know Ramapo is NOW Rockland but only since late 1700s when it split from Orange. the people in Everton book where there then and earlier karin" Not only that, but what does Everton mean by "Ramapo"? There's a Ramapo River and the Ramapo Mountains - they may not be talking about the town. The Ramapo patent was mostly in New Jersey, and overlapped the eventual state border. Three different land grants - Kakiat, Wawayanda, and Cheesecocks - conflicted in the Town of Ramapo. Regina Haring, Nanuet, NY
