Can anybody help me? I am looking for info on the family of Frank John Howard Wickham Murphy born 24 Feb 1886 Port Jervis NY. His mother was Ida Wickham and father Frank Murphy. I have an old photo with the following names on it, Levi Wickham, James Henry Murphy, Horise Rogers, Frank Wickham Murphy, James Howard Murphy, Levi Wickham Murphy, Percy Wickham Dilliston and Frank Dilliston. The family lived near the race course and owned a creamery. An uncle was a doctor in the area. Frank came to Australia in 1906 via England, Ireland and South Africa. I have another old photo of a soldier, presumably WW1, labelled Levi Wickham Murphy. I cannot find the family on the IGI site. Any info would be appreciated. Thankyou Robyn Wickham.
Liz, I also subscribe to the digest mode, it's the best way to do it. BTW if you just one to save one of the messages, while you have that message showing, click on file, then on save. Barbara
I am helping my daughter-in-law try to locate her birthfamily, we know that her adoption was finalized through the Orange County Social Services, in Goshen, NY, but what we don't know is if the reason it was finalized there was because the adoptive parents lived there, or maybe the birthmothers family lived there. Does anyone know about this? My daughter-in-law was born in Brooklyn, NY, but we know that the birthmother was sent to be with relatives there until she delivered, she could have been sent from anywhere in the US, just wanted to know where the adoption would normally take place. Sincerely, Betsi Westling
Hello all, Having read the various post re saving individual messages that are received via Digest, I'll share my method. I simply forward the one I wish to save to myself as an individual post. I have found this to be the simplest method. Mary Alice in CA

' to your folder named xxxx , Voila , you now have only the message you want , without any headers / junk and close wordpad without saving , you then can delete the full ' digest ' , Phil
I have subscribed to digest versions of all lists I'm on (i.e. NYORANGE-D). This way I get one batch a day from each list and the address appears as NYORANGE-D. At the start of the digest message are all messages for the day-subjects and addresses. Its like having a table of contents. One draw back is that if one message is worth saving I have to save the whole batch.
T., Re: Your statement: "Getting the list owner to put the NYORANGE-L in the subject line is the only solution that will work for everyone." There is _never_ just one solution to any problem. I'm suspicious of anyone who says their solution is the only solution for everyone. Maybe you should survey everyone before you make such a sweeping statement? Further, any "solution" that requires someone else to do something seems less likely to succeed. Why not see if there is something you can do for yourself first? The people who want a change could learn how to set up a filter so their NYORANGE mail goes directly into a folder called "NYORANGE." Then there would be no question about who sent it. Once you learn how to do that for NYORANGE you could have your program to automatically file all of your list mail for you. Perhaps some mail programs can't filter mail, but most can. If you can't figure it out I'd bet someone on the list could help if you tell us what program you are using and what operating system (Windows, NT, Mac, etc.). And if can't filter mail for some reason, perhaps someone else on the list can think of another solution. I am the person who started the controversy about the Subject line of the post to this list. I just want to apologize if I caused any problems. I have heard from the list owner and he has very graciously agreed to prepend the list name to the messages that come to this list. All mailer programs work different so the suggestions many of you made would not work for all of us. I apologize if I was unclear about my request. It is an easy change to make and most all of the rootsweb lists have this pre-pend in the subject line. The change should be apparent with this message. Susan
Regarding the flurry of posts last night. 1. Viruses come in and as attachments. There is no threat from 'opening' your mail. Your mail is not 'opened'; it is read. Attachments are opened. 2. There are no attachments with Rootsweb mail. Therefore there are no viruses with Rootsweb mail. Rootsweb does not accept or carry attachments. 3. If you want your mail quickly and easily identified, go to the Digest format. Neatly packaged, nicely identified, fully organized in sequence. not mixed or confused with anything else. I've tried both ways. Wouldn't have anything but the Digest.
My mail comes in stating NYORANGE and then when I click on, it shows the various messages and I open each one to read, this shows who is sending. My name is Betsi Westling, and I am helping my daughter-in-law try to locate her birth mother, her birthmother's last name was Lamonica, and we have reason to believe that she was from Orange County, NY. My daughter-in-law was born May 5, 1970, in Brooklyn, NY, possibly Kings County Hospital, her birthmother was sent to Brooklyn to stay with relatives until she delivered. The adoption took place at the Orange County Court House, on Oct 6, 1970, and Orange County Social Services handled it. Her birthmother was italian/lithuanian, 16 or 17 yrs old, and may have worked in a hospital, her birthfather was 20, italian, and was not told of the pregnancy, he may have gone into the service. We know that her last name was Lamonica, and that the birthmother named her "Melissa" at birth, we went to the New York Public Library to check the birth indexes, but we do not have a first name for the birthmother. If anyone knows of any Lamonica's in the Orange County area around in the 70's would you please contact me? Sincerely, Betsi
What is displayed is dependent on what mailer you use, and how it's configured. Some of them (mine included) show the original sender on the incoming summary, rather than the list server that re-sent it. The list name isn't available until you actually open the message. Along the same lines, the suggestion that Joanne made only applies to whatever mailer she uses. It will not work on all of them. Getting the list owner to put the NYORANGE-L in the subject line is the only solution that will work for everyone. T. Yes! You are always taking a chance, opening mail when you don't know from where it comes. Is there some way to correct this?
