Searching for the lineage of Elizabeth Fenner who married David Parliament 1823 in Suzzex NJ and any information on David's parents. THey were originally from Orange County. Believe David's mothers given name was Amy.
I am new to this list and am researching the above names in the Orange County area. My gg grandparent were Henry Helms (b. 1798, d. 1860) and Ann (Gannon) Helms (b. 1809, d. 1871) of Southfield(s). My great grandfather, Charles Vincent Helms (b. 1845, d. 1907-name at birth- Vincent Helms) married Adelia Green (b. abt 1849, d. 1891), 14 April 1864 in Monroe Works. According to Adelia's death certificate, she was born in Bergen County, NJ, but the document lists no parents' names. I know that the Green family is an old name in Orange County and that there was a great deal of commerce between Bergen Co., NJ and Orange Co., NY. I am unable to locate Adelia in any census in NJ. She is my "most wanted." Also, I would be interested in any info anyone might have on the Gannon family. Ann Gannon's father was David Gunnons. I also believe she had a brother, John Gannon (b 1812, d 1901). Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on the Green and Gannon/Gunnons lines. Ann Brooks Mechanicsburg, PA
I have recently tried to update my list of DRAKE sources at http://web.mit.edu/mboleary/www/Searls/drakesources.html As you'll see, it includes new entries for the NJ, NH, and Eastchester/Fairfield lines, although they are still relatively short. I would welcome additions/corrections to this list, as well as any comments/info you have about these lines. I would like to have a better sense for how many Drake immigrant ancestors there were in this NY/NJ/PA area pre-1750, and for whether they were related or not. Can anyone tell me where I find an obituary for an Orange County man who was killed in the Civil War? Is there a historical society? I am looking for anything I can find on Jacob LENT, who was killed at Gettysburg, 02 Jan. 1863. He was originally from Goshen, and was son of Selah and Ruth Ann (DANN/DAHN) LENT, who were originally from Highland Mills. Thanks. kathy
Hi Barbara, In the early nineteenth century, the term "Canada West" referred to the English settlements west of New France (the early Franch settlements in today's Province of Quebec). The exact boundaries of this jurisdiction changed several times over that century. Most of the settlements were along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and the north shore of Lake Ontario in today's Province of Ontario. Many American colonists who wished to maintain their ties to England came to this area after the American Revolutionary War, where they became known as the Loyalists. Some of the earliest settlements were at Newark (today's Niagara-on-the-Lake), York (today's Toronto) and Kingston. JoAnne, The first place would be the 1850 Census, this is the first one that shows family members. The index show a lot of Moores in Deer Park but no Archers. M432-574 page 276 starts Deer Park. If you have any doubts about Deer Park then get roll 573 also which covers the rest of Orange County in addition to what is on 574. Hello List, I'm new to this list and am trying to find info on GGgrandmother Abagail (Abigail) J. Moore born about 1828 probably in Deerpark, Orange Co., NY. Abby (Abbie) J. Moore's father immigrated from Ireland and his first name was either Patrick or William. The family story is that the Moore's lived next door to David Archer (wife Ada Purdy) and their son, Henry Purdy Archer married "the girl next door" -- Abby Moore about 1845. With such sparse info available, can anyone tell me where to begin (or how) to find info on Abby Moore? Appreciate any help I can get! Cordially, JoAnne Gage Teske - WI
