    3. Diane, I don't have real answers, but perhaps the 1850 census returns will provide more clues. It appears that Henry Burns and Hannah Miller began married life in Sullivan County, New York, and Jacobus Miller may have been living there as well. 5 Sep 1850 1850 > NEW YORK > Sullivan > Mamakating Series: M432 Roll: 603 Page: 187 Henry Burns, age 32, Caulker Hannah Burns, age 21 Winfield Burns, age 1 [all born NY] [possible] 24 Oct 1850 1850 > NEW YORK > Sullivan > Fallsburg Series: M432 Roll: 603 Page: 187 Jocobus Miller, age 60? 3. The official enumeration day of the 1850 census was 1 June 1850. All questions asked were supposed to refer to that date. I have found more than one person, listed last, that died 1850 but were on census - but usually died between 1 June & the actual census-taking date. Could be instructions were slightly misunderstood, maybe as "up to". 3. Seeking the identities and pedigrees of the following three families of Orange/Montgomery Counties in the Montgomery/Walden area: Jacobus Miller, b. 1783-1784 (he appears in the household of daughter Hannah and son-in-law Henry Burns in Esopus, Ulster County, age 76, with no wife.) The Burns family bible list Jacobus Miller's death as 10 April 1860, which obviously is a mistake, because he is alive as of census date 18 July of that year. I'm seeking verification of the death of Jacobus Miller: possibilities 10 Aug 1860, 10 Apr 1861, etc. He was dead before the 1870 census, as daughter Hannah Miller Burns, widow, is living in Walden township with her children on the 1870 census, and her father is no longer with her. I have found entries for Jacobus Miller in the township of Montgomery in 1790, 1800, 1810 and 2 in 1820. There is also an 1820 entry for a third Jacobus Miller in Wallkill in 1820. In 1790, there appears to have been a number of heads of family Miller all living in Montgomery. Can anyone help me with the history of this family? According to the Burns family bible entries, Henry Burns was b. 25 Jan 1823; d.12 May 1861. He married 25 Dec 1848 Hannah Miller, who was b. 22 June 1828. No places are noted with these dates. Their children were Winfield Scott Burns b. 24 Apr 1850; d. 8 Mar. 1919; William burns b. 1 Aug 1852, d. 24 Apr 1855; Minerva Burns b. 26 June 1853, Alonzo Burns b. 6 Sep 1854, d. 3 Nov 1859; Henry Burns b. 20 July 1857, Warren Burns b. 20 Feb 1860. Henry Burns d. 12 May 1861, his widow Hannah Miller Burns d.7 Apr 1880. I do not find traces of Henry Burns family in the Montgomery area before his widow and children moved there, presumably to be near her relatives after the deaths of her husband and father. It may be that the Burns were an Ulster County family. Hannahs children grew up and remained in the Wallkill Valley area. Does anyone have knowledge of this Burns family? Winfield Scott Burns Sr, son of Henry and Hannah (MIller) Burns, b. 24 Apr 1850, married 4 May 1875, according to the Burns family bible, one Mary Henry. NY State Death Index lists her death as 3 June 1928 in Walden; her gravestone dates her birth at 1848. Although I have seen some Henry family references in Wallkill Vally, and in the Orange County Reform Dutch Church records, I have no means of connecting them to my Mary Henry. Any information about this family would be new to me. The children of Winfiled Scott and Mary (Henry) Burns, presumably all born at Walden, were Hattie, b. 20 Oct 1873, m. Hennry C. Burrows and removed to Brooklyn, NY; William, b. 11 Spe 1875, m. Jeannette Hasbouck; Frreddie b. 7 Mar 1878, m. Laura ?; Lillian May b. 11 May 1882, m. 17 Sep 1902 Frank McMahon; Evalenne b. 17 June 1886, d. 16 Aug 1888; Winfield Scott Burns Jr. b. 25 Jan 1889, d. 1956, m. 23 Aug 1908 Annie F. McFeeters. Winfield & Mary (Henry) Burns are buried at Wallkill Valley Ceme! tery, as are his brother William & wife Helen (Clearwater) Burns. I would greatly appreciate any assistance with the Burns, Milller and Henry families noted above. Thank you. Diane Stefane Chesapeake VA

    1. JORDAN/SWARTOUT
    2. RJTHODEN
    3. Seeking parents of JOHN JORDAN born 6 Mar 1764 where I know not. He died 26 Jan 1850 Pike, Wyoming Co, NY, but buried in family lot in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY. He married 15 Sep 1785 probably in or near Goshen, Orange Co., NY Julia SWARTOUT born 18 Nov 1769 daughter of Jacobus SWARTOUT who before and during the Revolution lived in Sugar Loaf which is now in town of Chester, Orange Co., NY but then in town of Warwick, Orange Co., NY. Following children born to John and Julia: Michael 1786 in Orange Co; William 1788; Jesse 1790; James 1791; hn 1792; Andrew; 1795; Betsey 1797; Isaiah 1799; Sally (Patty) 1801; JACOB 1803; Julia Margaret 1805; Unnamed son 1807 at which time Julia probably died because she does not appear in 1810 census. John/Julia do not appear in the 1790 census of NYS in their own home with two sons nor have I found them in PA, NJ or any N.E. state. By 1800, JORDAN family residing in Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., NY. From there, Michael, William and Jesse settled in and died in Steuben Co. James and John settled town of Cuba, Allegany Co., NY; Isaiah, after living with his brother, Michael in Steuben Co., migrated on to Allegany Co and he and brothers Andrew and JACOB settled in town of Wirt of Allegany Co., NY. Betsey (Elizabeth) Jordan married Sebastion WELLER and lived in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. Sally married John DYGERT and lived in Montgomery Co, NY. Julia Margaret married Charles PHELPS, migrated to Pike, Wyoming Co. and it was at her home that JOHN died in 1850. In 1840, JOHN JORDAN is still residing at Cherry Valley but by 1848 has migrated to town of Wirt and because he died before 1850 census was taken, it has been family tradition that he lived with his son, JACOB, but his will probate states he died at home of his daughter in Wyoming Co. ANY help would be appreciate on these above mentioned families.... Ruth Jordan Thoden [email protected] --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Get on board. 3. Second Annual Phillips/Knapp Family Association Reunion The Second Annual Phillips/Knapp Family Association Reunion will be held the weekend of September 9-10, 2006, in Rockland County. All persons descended from a Rockland County Phillips and/or Knapp are invited to attend. Most of our members are descended from Daniel, Eli, or Gilbert Phillips, the three sons of John Phillips and Sarah Knapp, or from Lebbeus Knapp and Rachael Storms. Daniel, Eli, Gilbert and Lebbeus were all patriots who served their new country in the Revolutionary War. Lebbeus is reputed to have had three brothers, Silas, Jonas, and Jared Knapp who also settled in Rockland County and have descendants. All are reported to have come to Rockland County from Horseneck (Greenwich), Connecticut. In an effort to locate more Phillips/Knapp descendants, we have established a website. It can be perused at www.tribalpages.com/tribes/phillipsknapp/ This site is still in the building stages; more names are being added every day. Anyone with information regarding a Phillips or Knapp family line not represented is asked to e-mail the reunion chairperson, Barbara de Mare (an Eli Phillips descendant) at [email protected] She can tell you if your line is missing solely because of the time restraints in adding names, or due to lack of information. Please put Phillips/Knapp in the subject box. Descent is all that is required to join our group; present surname is not important. Neither is it necessary to present proof of descent. We are a group who gathers for fellowship and community betterment; credentials are not checked! Last year the group with the help of the Town of Haverstraw, the SAR and the DAR restored and rededicated the old and abandoned Phillips/Knapp Cemetery on Birch Drive in Thiells where many of our forebears are buried. The project for this year is still under discussion. The reunion weekend will commence with a barbeque to which attendees are invited to bring a dish to pass. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be provided. There will be a pavilion in which family members may display their family trees, memorabilia, pictures, and anything else they wish to bring. Nothing is required except your presence. Come to the reunion and meet many cousins you never knew you had! For more information contact either the reunion chairperson Barbara de Mare at the address given above or Vicki Miller, membership chairperson, at [email protected] For those who prefer snail mail, write to Barbara de Mare at Harwood Lloyd, 130 Main Street, Hackensack, New Jersey 07601. We will be sending out more information in mid-July. Remember, we need your name and address (snail mail or e-mail) to send you information! Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. 1. Nelson NEWKIRK/NEIKIRK
    2. I need help with the family of Nelson NEWKIRK/NEIKIRK born about 1820. I am trying to establish the parents of my Estella NEWKIRK born about 1858 who married Dewitt MARTIN and lived Summitville, Sullivan Co., NY 1875 and 1880. The Nelson NEWKIRK/NEWKIRK family is living in Goshem, Orange Co., NY on the 1860 census with wife Elizabeth, children: Sarah I, 8, Henry, 6, Richard W, 4 and Estella, 2. In 1870 Henry and Elizabeth are in Mamakating, Sullivan Co., NY with James H, 17 (maybe this is Henry - his age is about right), Matilda, 13, Ida, 10 and Harvey, 6. All help will be greatly appreciated. Bev
