Note that my recent message says both Festus and Andrew are mentioned in the Crane will. Town of Highlands Cemeteries--Eagle Valley Cemetery is a fairly recent extension of Peacedale Cemetery in the Village of Highland Falls. The Catholic Cemetery has been in the same area for many years, long before West Point acquired the land surrounding it, which had been a dairy farm until the early 40s. I have heard that there is or was a Jewish Cemetery there too. Further info on the cemeteries most welcome! Who was Sarah Vail the daughter of? One of my husband's family, Alida Brittan, wed Charles Vail in Orange and they then moved to San Francisco. California where her brother John Wesley Brittan was a very wealthy capitalist. I've never been able to connect him specifically to the various Orange County Webbs...although he's clearly connected somehow. Festus is mentioned once in Coulter's Records of the Ridgebury Presbyterian Church (p.72). The brief passage says "Roswell Mead came from New England, purchased the Festus Webb farm formerly the Richard Wood farm, married a daughter of Rueben Cash...." A separate passage (p.73) says that Richard Wood settled in the area (Minisink/Ridgebury presumably) some time about 1778, and had a sawmill. Yet another passage, on page 70, gives Richard Wood's 1813 location as "Mead District-northeast of Slate Hill and west of Ridgebury-District 3." Festus is mentioned four times (each time as "Festus A. Webb") in Early Wills of Orange County. He was a witness to the 1812 will of Benjamin Gale of Goshen; he was named an executor in the April 1820 will of Samuel Webb of Goshen (careful: there's also a November will of another Samuel Webb of Wallkill); he was an executor (along with Andrew Webb) of the 1824 will of William Crane of Goshen; and he was a witness to the 1828 will of Daniel Fullerton of Minisink. (Incidentally, William Crane's will says one of five Crane daughters was named "Sally Webb," so it is quite possible either Festus or Andrew Webb was the husband of Sally and a son-in-law of William Crane.) I hope this helps. Let me know if you discover where Festus fits in the Webb family. Robin
Festus Webb married Sarah Crain. Their Daughter Frances Emily was born 1807, died 1889, married Isaiah Vail Mapes 1828 (1805-1880). Festus lived in the Town of Minisink before 1850. Does anyone have any more information on this family? Carol Van Buren

Hi Kaye Have you tried looking for wills of the various Wood men from Montgomery. They might list the children. I have been researching George W. McKinney of Vails Gate b. 1782 for quite a while and I have talked to you from time to time. I also research Wood families in and around Cornwall, Orange Co. NY. One of my grandfathers was a John Wood born in Cornwall around 1785. They have lived on Storm King Mt. in Cornwall since the 1760s. I have not come across the girls as of yet. I will let you know if I do. I found the following query on Genealogy.com sent by [email protected], and it includes a Smith family. Perhaps it's a connection? 1900 Brooklyn, Kings, NY Lucky, John J. I don't know what the name of the cemetery on 9W is, but it is not The Cemetery of the Highlands. The Cemetery of the Highlands is in Highland Mills, NY on Rt. 32. The Cemetery of the Highlands is rather nice. I visited there several years ago and unfortunately there was no one at the "office." I'm not sure where the records are kept these days. I have several CONKLIN relatives buried there. Henry LOUNSBURY CONKLIN Sr (12 Jul 1830-26 Apr 1903), his son is also buried there: SGT Henry Lounsbury CONKLIN Jr (2 Aug 1869-4 Sep 1949) (he was in A Co, 22nd Infantry Regt during the Spanish American War), his wife is there: Evelyn DEANE CONKLIN (25 Mar 1870-18 Nov 1964) (she graduated from the Normal College in NYC in 1890. This was later named Hunter College. General Sherman was the guest of honor at her graduation) I continue to look for information about Henry LOUNSBURY CONKLIN Sr.'s parents. They were Solomon CONKLING (b. 25 May 1788, Goshen, Orange Co., NY) and Mary LOUNSBURY (b. 3 Jan 1789, Westchester Co., NY, d. 22 Jul 1830, Monroe, Orange Co., NY) If anyone ties into these families I'd love to share info with you. I haven't asked about my two mystery WOOD girls, Elizabeth and Jane, in a while. I only know of them due to mention in their grandpa Arthur McKinney's will made 1793, he died 1801, it was probated 1802. This starts out being about Jane (Jannetje) McKINNEY his daughter abt 1752-abt 1793 (stubborn old Matthew's sister). Jane married first Jurg Lodewick WELLER 1770, they had 4 children by 1777, Mary, Frederick, James, and Ludwig Jr. This is Montgomery Town, Ulster/Orange. I do not know what Mr WOOD Jane married next, maybe about 1780 or later, only that when she died young by 1793 there were the 2 young daughters Elizabeth and Jane. As best I can guess they were born some time in the 1780s up to 1793. I don't even know that *this* Wood family was living at Montgomery! census index: Abner Wood Montgomery, Ulster, NY 1790 Abraham Wood Montgomery, Ulster, NY 1790 Benjamin Wood Montgomery, Ulster, NY 1790 William Wood Montgomery, Ulster, NY 1790 Abraham Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1800 Benjamin Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1800 Samuel Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1800 Abner Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1810 Abraham Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1810 Samuel Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1810 William S Wood Montgomery, Orange, NY 1810 I'll take any help I can get and even follow the wild goose! ____________________________________________________________________________________ Expecting?
