As a disabled 52yr old woman I spend most of every day helping people on various lists because it interest's me and I imagine the help brings joy to the receiver. Thanks for the descent reply and the URL (Uniform Resource locator) link - I will go there... I never would have guessed what RAOGK meant. Thanks for the explanation. Lauren, RAOGK is "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" - but you are right that not everyone may know that. It generally means one of two things - one, that when you are able that you jump into a query, etc. to help someone, without being asked. Or, there are more ways, suggestions on www.raogk.org to do things on a more organized basis, not necessarily for free. It is a wonderful web site and I have used it and donated time on it. Hello - You suggested that 'we' use (?) RAOGK ... (( RAOGK -> pass it on )) But I have no idea what that stands for... nor do I know where -->> Meigs county is... I suggest that when 'we' make the effort to give, 'we' give clearly... Unlike Santa I am unable to travel the globe to 'know' where every place is and what their acronyms are. I don't think 'this consideration' takes an extra mile just another minute or so. I get frustrated when I have to type out everything - but it is for the 'readers clear understanding that I do.... Sharing resources is a waste of time and energy if readers don't understand where the various place names are located and those unknown abbreviations slay me... Frustrated in New York Thanks Lauren in Syracuse NY --Orig From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Thurs,December 18, 2003 12:09 PM To: [email protected] re [OHMEIGS] Genealogical Gify to List Hi Connie I thought of that also . I offered to do lookups -- on another list tht I have resources for . I dont really have any for Meigs county yet . I also do lookups for RAOGK under another e-mail name so as to keep better track of requests . RAOGK is a great resource for those of us who are living on a tight budget . " Give and it shall be given unto you " :) . I have really been helped a lot by these great people who take the time to share a resource with others . There are always going to be people who take advantage of others and give nothing in return . But the people at RAOGK are just really going the extra mile to help each other find their roots . I would like to suggest to anyone on A LIST that if you have purchased resources -- census records - cemetery records - deed records - ect for a particular county , why not help out someone else who cant afford to buy all those resources that we need to track our families . If we all pool our resources together we can find our roots so much easier . I just received some great cemetery pictures from Dewayne on the Arkansas list . He went the extra mile for me & I am so blessed by that ! I also received some obits from a kind lady - Sara - in Illinois who spent a half day searching the cemetery for my gggrandparents graves <- they had NO markers . people like this are angels in the flesh . What a great Christmas gift ! :) :) :) RAOGK -> pass it on :) Thankyou Sara & Dewayne & Laurie & on & on & on Crys-sheri
