Graham, I noticed that HOLMES is one of the families you are researching. I am searching for information about the JOHN HOLMES family that lived in Onondaga County during the 1830's and 1840's and perhaps earlier. They are in IL in the 1850 Census. John HOLMES and wife, Mary Furze were born in England...don't know when they arrived in US. All of their children report being born in NY. My grgrandmother, Sarah Ann HOLMES, was born in 1838 in Splitrock, Onondaga, NY. Is there any connection to your HOLMES?
