    3. Dot, Unfortunately the closest place to stay (the Hotel Syracuse) just closed within the last few months. It may or may not reopen. If it does, it's anybody's guess as to how long before that happens. It could be years. I don't know of any other hotel in what I would call "downtown". [Or if there is one, it must not be well-publicized.] While it might still have been a little bit of a walk, the Hotel Syracuse was within walking distance. I don't know of any other place to stay that is. However, should you happen to find a good place to stay elsewhere (and there are lots of places outside of downtown), and have access to a car, there is an underground parking garage underneath the OCPL main branch there in the Galleries. It is often full during the daytime hours however. There is a bus that stops not far from the Galleries on S. Salina Street, but I don't recall whether it stops right in front of the Galleries or not. Once in the Galleries, there is an elevator if you don't wish to take the escalator up to the 2nd floor where the Library entrance is located. There is an elevator in the library itself which will take you up to the 5th floor level where the Local History & Special Collections room is located. If you're planning a trip in the Fall, I suggest you wait no later than October or early-to-mid November, because you risk the possibility of snow after that. If you have trouble walking, you surely don't want to be slogging through that mess. I know nothing about the church or its records, but if I remember to do so, I could call them tomorrow and ask them and let you know what they say. -- Mary Taffet Syracuse, NY [email protected] On Mon, 26 Jul 2004, Dorothy Goldman wrote: > Hello List Members, > > I am tentatively planning a trip to Syracuse in the Fall and have a > couple (so far) of questions that I hope you can help me with. > > 1. 3. In reply to Dorothy Goodman and others interested in a Hotel near the Onondaga County Public Library in Syracuse, NY. The Hawthorn Suites Hotel on S. Clinton opened just a year or so ago just a block from the Galleries at Syracuse on South Clinton Street where the Onondaga County Public Library is located. This is also located just 2 blocks from the Onondaga County Court House on State Street which you can walk to easily from the Library and the Onondaga Historical Society at 311 Montgomery Street which is just two blocks from the library. Below is a review of the Hawthorn hotel and information on the hotel from a Google search on Syracuse NY Hotels. It is located in historic Armory Square where there are several nice restaurants and shops close by the hotel and the library.
