Hi List For those of us who dont know; what is a DAR please? Grahame Thom Australiaon 22/1/04 12:39 PM, [email protected] at [email protected] wrote:
Grahame, DAR = Daughters of the American Revolution, which is a national society headquartered in Washington, D.C., with organizations at the State level, and chapters at the local level. It is a heritage/lineage society, which involves proving descent from a recognized DAR patriot, or even more involved -- convincing the DAR to recognize a previously unknown patriot from whom you can prove descent. The original question asked about DAR chapters in the Syracuse area. You can only join the DAR by contacting a local chapter. Syracuse proper has two chapters -- General Asa Danforth and Comfort Tyler as mentioned previously. Then there is a chapter in Fayetteville (Fayetteville-Owahgena chapter); Fayetteville is very close to Syracuse (just a few miles from my house and I live in the city of Syracuse). There is also the Betsy Baldwin Chapter in Baldwinsville. Baldwinsville is a bit further away from Syracuse -- more like 10 to 15 miles or even 20 miles away. I myself am in the process of joining the DAR, and I am joining through the Betsy Baldwin chapter because they are the most responsive chapter in the area. -- Mary Taffet [email protected] Grahame & Rosslyn Thom wrote: > > Hi List > > For those of us who dont know; what is a DAR please? > > Grahame Thom
